Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - YoshyRyuDCC - 10-16-2008 I've been Spriting since 1998 online (on and off), and I feel that I've picked up a few skills here and there. Here are some of my favorite sprite sheets that I've done. Robo Mario - Robo Mario, I made these out of bordom a Long, Long time ago. Then I sent these to a website got a game made. Robo Luigi - Robo Luigi.. yeah.. for the second game thats still in the works Yoshy Ryu 0.0 sheet - MegaMan edit, I've re-did this sheet later on because I wanted to. Yoshy Ryu "Keeping it Old school" - another MegaMan edit sheet, but this time I re-used my sprites over and over, making custom poses that look.. well.. hilarious? G101 Alpha "Advanced" - My 1st Sonic Fan character (still a MegaMan base though) and I still say it looks good for sprite sheet back then. Yoshy Nytro 1.0 - My second and main Sonic fan character, I used Yoh Sprites for the base. Yoshy Nytro 2.0 - Second sheet, and I used RoscMan's sprites of himself as a base. He only had four of his "classic" look, and I made way more then four. Yoshy Nytro 3.0 - My 3rd sprite sheet of Yoshy Nytro, my Sonic/Anthro character. Yoshy Ryu Custom - Made these from scratch for my Sprite Comic called "Sprite Talk" DJ Man sheet - I did this for a friend. Used Danny Fenton Sprites as a base. Yoshy Ryu NG 2 - NG for New Genoration or something like that. I basicly just changed the color of my jacket and pants, fixed my hat, and re-did some of my effects. Yes, I did some of them from scratch. (you can tell which ones, look at 0.0 sheet) Yamato-Ized Yoshy Ryu 2.1 - The only thing I did here was re-did my body, & Pants. My heads and hands are from scratch. Game Man 2.3 - Game Man (G101 Alpha) Jet Plasma Sheet - Made this For Jet Plasma. Colored Text Bubble sprites - Pre-made text bubble sprites for MS Paint comics. They just look fancy, and if you want to give your comic some more 'UMPH' these can do it. Another Version of G101 is up - 2.5 version, since I just added some more poses. Yoshy Ryu '8-bit' - Wheee!!! Kinda old, but it looks nice. Ruby 1.0 - Nothing wrong with these, but she wanted two versions of herself so.. yeah.. Ruby 2.0 - Second version! Yoshy Ryu Jock Hybrid Sprites - Hybrid sprites, I've made more sprites of me based of the style of how my friend can sprite. Still all me though. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My worst/bad sprite(s) sheet Why have a place for my bad Sprite Sheets? Its more for how I've improved since back in the day. Sarkis the Fox - For a friend on Deviantart, I made this to practice my animation skills. ReteenaTH - One of Many failed Sonic characters I wanted to have. As you can see I let it die because I havn't made another sheet. Neo-San - When the Matrix was hawt, I decided to make a character with the word 'Neo' in it. Back then Invert stuff was okay but now.. a huge no no.. Jerkedo Poscofsci - I actually want to Use Poser again, I had a nice lil backstory for him too. But I'm too lazy right now to re-work this sheet. G104 Delta - G104? Yeah, I made some more besides Alpha. G102 Beta is my cousin's Sonic character but I did make the sprites. G102 Beta - As you can tell from my tag, I was going to come back online (I was off for a few years) as Game Man. But I wimped out and stayed as Yoshy Ryu. BlitzMan sheet 1.0 - I wanted to make a sprite sheet for my friend, but he doesn't have a fan character of anykind. So I kept making some up for him. BlitzMan 2.0 - Second Sheet :/ RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - KillerAslox - 10-16-2008 Well, they're OK, but it's just that you Pillowed almost every sprite. RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - YoshyRyuDCC - 10-16-2008 (10-16-2008, 01:30 AM)KillerAslox Wrote: Well, they're OK, but it's just that you Pillowed almost every sprite. Pillow Shaded? You sure about that? I thought Pillow Shading was something that was explained liked here, I do have a light source you know. Unfortunately though, my choice of colors are usually to bright to be noticed. I've never used someone else's color palette before and I always make my own. Here a revamp of my first scratch sprites As you can see, the shading is better but I still need to work on the colors to make the shading better, and note that it is not pillow shaded. The light source is directly above the sprite. RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - KillerAslox - 10-16-2008 Light source from above is almost pillowed, and a character is mostly not right underneath the sun. Here the 1st is yours, I re-did the shirt only, and the panst is pillowed. (And if he is underneath the sun, the dark colour at the T-shirt sould be start with a dark colour, since his head gives some shadow) RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - YoshyRyuDCC - 10-16-2008 (10-16-2008, 02:04 AM)KillerAslox Wrote: Light source from above is almost pillowed, and a character is mostly not right underneath the sun. I think your definition of pillow shading is a tad off, but I will agree that he should cast a shadow on the shirt and jacket. Since the Light Source is coming from above, kinda like The Mario and Luigi Super Star Saga Sprites. I just added more colors and more shades, so I can hardly call my style of shading pillow shading, because the Basic definition of it means the light source would be coming from the screen where you are viewing the sprite. If the lighter shades are going upward, downward, to the left or right, that means that the light source is definitely not coming from the screen. Fine, then you think it's not, but if you look at your pants it's pillowed. Having an above-light source is not pillow-shaded. Having a center light source is. And a lot of styles have an above-light source. I really don't know what you're on, but share some with me, brah. RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - camds - 10-16-2008 Apart from some of them looking Pillowed, I would say most of them are pretty good. RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - Gors - 10-16-2008 it's too much things to criticize: I'll try to do it one by one. Robo Bros: Their color choices are bad. What's that supposed to be? 8-bit? 16-bit? overall it's a bad-recolor with pillow-shaded NES-megaman style Mario head. Yoshy-Ryu 0.0: Megaman edit with a weird hairstyle. His cap is very ugly, his legs and arms should be less segmented (no big feet or arms), his punch looks odd and his projectile attacks are nothing but a simple circle-tool generated ellipsis. The colors again are bad; your hair shade is unnoticeable and it should have a shaded outline. Also, some colors you've chose are a pain on the eyes. Choose a eye-friendly color and increase your contrast. Shifting your hues and a bit of antialiasing will help, too. I suggest you studying fire so your "game blasts" won't look like paper. Keeping it old-school: it looks more like a custom (and that's good), but the Megaman traces are still present (huge feet, walking style). I suggest you trying a custom style, if you still didn't. You need to know a bit of anatomy; some poses look really awkward. Again, colors. The shades are more visible now, but it's still weird. Stay off from the gradient shading and use more hue-shifting: Making the dark colors a bit blue and the light colors a bit yellow will make it better. There are pillowshading in some parts: the pants look like they're glowing, and that's no good. Also, some of the things I said in the Yoshy-Ryu 0.0 section should be fixed here, too (less eyesore colors, antialiasing etc...) G101 Alpha: Normally, splices aren't welcomed here in tSR, as it looks like a poor edit. In your case, it's very poor (sorry if I'm being a bit harsh there ) There's almost no shading on the blue and again, the outline should be shaded, too. Eyesore colors, busy face, unshaded skateboard made with MS paint tools, poor motion blur, poor resizing and pillowshading makes this sheet bad, too. Yoshy Nitro 1: see Yoshy-Ryu 0.0. And avoid gradient shaing. Yoshy nitro 2: see Yoshi Nitro 1. Also you should shade his belly part as a whole. If not, his belly will look 3D, and you know that Sonic's belly isn't. Yoshy Nitro 3: Choppy, blocky, stiff, and a lot of stray pixels. I know it's his fur, but putting pixels randomly doesn't work. His gloves are totally pillowshaded. Study a bit of anatomy to make proper limbs. Also see Yoshy Nitro 1. Scratch Yoshy Ryu: Inconstant shading. What's it? It's when you shade both his left side and his right side. Weird, isn't it? Speaking of it, there's some of these in your sprites. Also You need to work on his front poses; his face looks all messy. You don't need to mirror your stuff; we know how to do it. See anatomy and Yoshy Nitro 1. DJ man: Anatomy, colors. Pretty much it. Try to make more smooth animations, too. PS: and it's Danny Phantom Yoshy Ryu NG 2: The colors are less painful in the eyes, but you need to increase contrast. It's almost without shading... Fire-looking things should have very bright colors in the middle (white, for example). His cap divisions are kinda bad but still improved from the original. Another thing that I'd like to say is: never mirror sprites. It makes your work very bad. Check your frontal poses, for example. See how his legs are. I doubt you'd like to be like that. Give it some changes and make a less boring pose. *and change his shoes. It's too big.* Yamato-ized sprites: Look. At. His. Hands. You made his shoes smaller but increased your hands' size...? His cap brim looks too straight, you need better colors and shading (see my other criticisms, I'm tired writing the same thing a lot of times ). Also he looks anorexic in the frontal poses. Game Man 2: The colors are lacking contrast in some areas. His outline should be shaded, or not at all. Also you could make the animations more smoother. Jet Plasma: It could be a bit more brighter. His body looks too straight and his tail should move a bit, too. Speech Bubbles: They look cool, but the red/orange/black ones look unshaded (or with less shading). Also that magenta one isn't good for the eyes : / Game Man 2,5: See Game Man 2. Yoshy Ryu 8-bit: It is NOT 8-bit. It should have 4 colors (including transparency) in a 8x8 pixel square. It should use the NES palette, too. It can be found at TSR. Ruby: her hair is jagged, her shirt's shading is off, and some head poses look busy and weird. Ruby 2: look Ruby. Jock Hybrid: His legs look small compared to his body. Oh, but these colors are great You should make palettes more like these I won't give CC to the bad ones. If you know they're bad, you probably know why they are. I may have been kinda harsh, so sorry about that... I was just giving some C+C; don't get discouraged by it. I know it's a lot of things, but ya know, keep trying! It's what people say... Rome wasn't built in one day. RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - YoshyRyuDCC - 10-16-2008 Ho' Damn. Okay, first of all if you read the first sentence before the sheets in the begging you would know that just about all of sheets are my personal favorites because each mean something to me. (most of them made my first year of spriting) The Robo Mario sprites where the first sheet I ever did, and got turned into an online game (I'm serious, but you don't get to play as Robo Mario until the last level). The others where made while I was offline and had no other sprites to edit, so I just re-used and re-edited the sprites I had previously edited. Some other works are not listed (Second Scratch Sprite, Jerkedo Sheet 2, and Yoshy Ryu of DCC Sheet) because they're weird for being Hybrids. The only current sheets (meaning made within the year or within the past five years) are; The First scratched sheet I made, the Jocky Hybrid sheet, the two Ruby Sheets (which I regrated making since I got blocked by her and Psy), and the last Nytro sheet. I'm currently not spriting as much, but I'll take your critisim from my old sheets so I don't re-make the same mistakes. I do have a WIP sheet, but only one of them is online . If you wouldn't mind, could you critic that one? That's the only one I really need to hear. As you can tell I'm revamping my first sheet, and thank you for actually looking at my stuff. RE: Yoshy's Sprite Sheets - Gors - 10-16-2008 I think you could use less colors for it (you can't even see his other hair shade). Also, don't mirror your body. Having your body totally simmetrical makes it look lazy. There's some pillow shading and the lightsource isn't constant and his eyes are creepy. Dunno why. |
