New Feature: Browse by Genre - Petie - 01-02-2016 Hey everyone! As you know, we've been working on adding genres and developers to all of our games. We've finally made enough progress with the genre feature to display them on the site. They're now visible in the left navigation - just click on the Genres header and start browsing! While we have made quite a bit of progress categorizing the games on tSR, there's still quite a bit to go so if you can't find a game you're looking for while browsing by genre, be sure to check under its respective console since not everything has a genre added to it yet. Also, while the genres will appear on tMR, tTR, and tSoR, there has been far less work done to properly categorize games on those sites since we're going to attempt to do the bulk of the labeling for the other sites by copying identical entries from tSR so it may be a while before there's much to see genre-wise on anything outside of tSR. And as always with our new features, post any comments, concerns, bugs, or anything else of interest here and enjoy! RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - Dazz - 01-02-2016 There will be a fair few things categorized incorrectly too. We added a couple of genres after starting, (in particular Action-Platformer) so be sure to let us know anything you think should be moved to whatever genre. Same goes for anything not labelled that you come across. RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - SuperFlomm - 01-02-2016 What's the difference between Platformer and Action-Platformer? RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - Dazz - 01-02-2016 A platformer game involves a lot of gameplay revolving around jumping, while action-platformers are sort of a mix between a beat 'em up and a platformer. Things like Batman, Ninja Gaiden - they don't really have much in the way of traversing the environment, and more about attacking enemies with skills. RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - SuperFlomm - 01-02-2016 I see, by that definition Metroid and Castlevania are also action-platformers, right? In this case I got a list of games that don't have the right genre: Castle in the Darkness - Action-Platformer Famous Five: Treasure Island - Adventure (Point and Click) Prince of Persia series - Action-Platformer Plants vs. Zombies - Strategy (Tower Defense) Papers, Please - Puzzle (I'm not sure on this one, but that is what wikipedia says) RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - Dazz - 01-02-2016 All adjusted, though I think I'm going to leave Papers, Please. I'll wait for what other people think. RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - SuperFlomm - 01-04-2016 Glover - Platformer Long Live the Queen - Visual Novel Rogue Legacy - Action-Platformer To the Moon - Adventure RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - Random Talking Bush - 01-05-2016 (01-04-2016, 10:49 PM)SuperFlomm Wrote: Glover - PlatformerAll fixed. RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - SuperFlomm - 01-10-2016 I got a couple suggestions. - Remove the Other genre from all customs. Customs are not games, so they shouldn't have a genre and as it is right now they feel out of place in between all the real games. - I don't want customs to disappear thought when browsing by genre, so I suggest creating a new No Genre "genre", that sits below the Other genre. Anything that does not have a genre is in there. This includes customs and games that don't have a genre yet. Idealy the customs should be the only thing in there once everything is sorted properly. RE: New Feature: Browse by Genre - DragonDePlatino - 01-11-2016 I just took the opportunity to check out this new feature and it works great! Today I was searching for some texture references in a top-down perspective and narrowing things down to "Turn-based RPG" really helped out. Here's a big thanks to everyone who worked on this! Just keep in mind that the categorization of games by genre, especially on sites other than tSR, is vastly incomplete and you likely will find many more results should you look for them in the future. I'm glad you were able to find what you were looking for but I just wanted to quickly mention that it wasn't a complete set at the time. |
