Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Neon Streak - 02-05-2016 Everybody and their mom has heard about Tile Molester; the sprite-ripping program that pretty much everyone on this site uses. I would be more than happy to try it out myself (Seeing as when I tried to open a Genesis ROM with YY-CHR, it came out looking like crap; I think I installed a newer version of it.)...only one problem: It needs a Java Executive. Why, in the year 2016, would a program that is considered to be the Holy Grail of sprite-ripping still need a Java Executive? I thought those things died out ages ago. So if anyone knows any alternatives to Tile Molester that work just as well, but is not in .jar format, please let me know in the comments. RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Pingus! - 02-05-2016 In-case you haven't tried it yet, try Tile Molester alternate: http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/515/ It uses java, but has a .exe in it. Hope it works! RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Neon Streak - 02-05-2016 Well, it seems I won't be able to do that, seeing as the site you linked me to requires me to log in to an account to download. Goddammit! First, its completely worth cause this site is gold and also this: "All downloads currently require being logged in to download. This is not RHDN's desire. We are forced to do this thanks to Google's Safe Browsing Service. Google falsely labeled our site as a malware site, and started blocking many areas of the site in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari browsers. This is entirely due to overly aggressive false positives on our downloads (they even scan inside compressed archive files such as zip). They do not allow any course of action against false positives. The only way to clear the site was making the downloads inaccessible, and requesting a rescan from Google." RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Skyla Doragono - 02-05-2016 Yeah, this is a good site to sign up with. And it looks like they changed their security recently; before it was almost impossible to sign up because it was so damn difficult to get a clear image, but they've changed to text based confirmation now. Yeah...about that. Apparently you need to have an account on their forums to download files. Great. Does anyone else know of any good Tile Molester alternatives that don't require any of this login bullcrap...and isn't in .jar format? RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Skyla Doragono - 02-05-2016 ...wow, really? What do you have against signing up with them? It takes all of two seconds. RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - eureka - 02-05-2016 TileGDD. It's UI is steep but it's pretty much TM but better. RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Neon Streak - 02-05-2016 Okay, I'd like to apologize to two of the users on this thread. I'm sorry if I sounded rude earlier, but I didn't know that you needed to have a forum account on ROMHacking.net to download their stuff and I'm kinda on a...how do I put it...low-registration diet when it comes to acquiring new programs (I found that out the hard way when downloading Kontact 5 for FL Studio.). So to the two users that I may or may not have pissed off...I'm sorry. In the meantime, I'll try to register an account on the site that Anex (One of the users I'm apologizing to.) provided me, and I'll get back to you all in a little bit. EDIT: Okay, I can scratch Tile Molester Alternate off the list-apparently, when I try to open the program (The .exe, not the .jar), I get an error message that reads, "Could Not Find Java Runtime Executive." RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Skyla Doragono - 02-06-2016 So run the .jar file directly. Or update Java on your PC. RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Raccoon Sam - 02-06-2016 You need to Install Java Runtime. I feel you – in my opinion, no one should have to "sign in to download" to any service ever, but no matter how convoluted your journey to getting Tile Molester and Java is, it's definitely worth it, I guarantee it™. RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Neon Streak - 02-06-2016 Thanks for feeling my pain, Raccoon Sam. It's also annoying when it comes to reading forums. For example, on the Image Line Forums, you need to be a registered user in order to view full threads; if you try to view them as a guest, the posts only contain a couple sentences. This can be really annoying when you have a problem with FL Studio, and you're trying to look up tips on the IL Forums. RE: Any alternatives to Tile Molester? - Raccoon Sam - 02-06-2016 Yeah, we've all been there. Usually forums restrict guests to not be able to view attachments or click links. Ugh. Romhacking.net didn't require registration at all just a year ago though, it's a fairly new thing. Let me know if you have problems with tile molester, I'd be happy to help and get you started. |
