Ripping 2D assets from Steam games? - SnowQueen - 03-14-2016 Hello! I'm a new user, but I registered mainly to ask this question since I haven't been able to find much info on the topic. I'm not too tech savvy either to figure the answer out myself. So would it be possible to use an external program to rip 2D sprites from Steam Games? The files are saved to your computer, so it feels like it should be? But again, I'm not exactly tech savvy... If you can offer any advice, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you in advance! RE: Ripping 2D assets from Steam games? - DarkGrievous7145 - 03-14-2016 I think this largely depends on the game in question. Steam is its own platform, yes... but from what I understand, games for it can be developed with virtually anything. Besides that, there's probably developers out there who do stuff to make ripping slightly more difficult, if not, next to impossible. I would guess ripping steam games has the same level of challenge as ripping from any other pc game, which tends to be that it varies from case to case. What game you thinking of ripping? Just curious... RE: Ripping 2D assets from Steam games? - puggsoy - 03-15-2016 Like DarkGrievous said, Steam games are basically PC games and as such how to rip is different on a per-game basis. Generally you'd go to the folder where the game is installed, and try look for files that may contain the resources you're looking for. If they're not in a familiar format, upload them here and we'll see if we can help. And yeah, if you tell us which game it is that might also help. RE: Ripping 2D assets from Steam games? - Celevra - 10-21-2019 Hey guys, found this ancient thread and have the same question. I am also no tech guy, more of a designer/artist. For some art projects i am looking to get sprites from "BLAZING CHROME" and "BLASPHEMOUS", both available on Steam and looking awesome. As far as i know, ripping is not just going into a folder and finding some sweet PNGs. I tried to get some information about how to do and even downloaded some software, but its already difficult for me to find the ressource file i need to check for the sprites i want to have... so i am trying to get some help here. Thanks in advance, Daniel |
