What's Up with my Sprites?! - TheRulerOfOats - 08-13-2016 Okay, so, I made a series of sprites for a character from a favourite obscure game series of mine (Wonderland), and that character was named Stinky (An example screenshot of what he looks like is marked 'Reference'). The sprites were designed to look like a mystery mushroom costume from Super Mario Maker. The sprite sheet marked 'Original' is the sheet that I first submitted about a week ago. The sheet got declined, so I messaged the member of the team who declined it what was wrong. He quickly, and rather kindly, responded that the colour palette did not fit the rest of the mystery mushrooms, and implying that this was the only issue with it. He also implied that any future concerns over a rejection should be posted to the forums, and I also agreed with that. In fact, I agreed with everything he said to me. A friend over Twitter analyzed the features of the Mario Maker Mystery Mushroom colour palette, and found that the colours were muted and had far less shading to them than the sprites I'd made. They were also kind enough to re-do the palette for me to fit with the Mario Maker style, and so then I applied that palette to the sprites, creating the sheet marked 'Revision 1'. I resubmitted the sheet, only to find a PM today from a different moderator telling me it still wasn't good enough! I took the previous advice of going to the forums into consideration, and here we are now. So, what is the issue with my sprites, guys? P.S. The stale walking animation is a reference to how he walks in-game, and I also mentioned this when submitting the 'Original' sheet, and the moderator confirmed that the rejection had nothing to do with the animations. P.P.S. If the image below isn't visible, imgur has probably deleted it from their servers, and by that point I imagine this topic will no longer be relevant. RE: What's Up with my Sprites?! - Hiynastrike - 08-13-2016 The thing about sheets is they have to fit quality control, it's more worth your time to post the sheet here to be given a look over rather than being disappointed that your sheet didn't make the cut Now about the Sprite... I have no clue what this character looks like (useful if you can find some official artwork/official sprites/models/etc But otherwise the greenish desaturated yellow and dark blue hat are a tad jarring, I suggest a palette that would blend better with SMB1 on the NES RE: What's Up with my Sprites?! - TheRulerOfOats - 08-13-2016 (08-13-2016, 01:41 PM)Hiynastrike Wrote: The thing about sheets is they have to fit quality control, it's more worth your time to post the sheet here to be given a look over rather than being disappointed that your sheet didn't make the cut I don't know what you mean about including official models, in the top right there's a picture of his in-game model. Anyway, if you think that a more NES palette is the answer, then I'll give it a go, thank you. RE: What's Up with my Sprites?! - Garamonde - 08-13-2016 http://www.spriters-resource.com/wii_u/supermariomaker/sheet/69701/ For the palette, I'd suggest plucking colors from official Mario Maker sprites to make sure you stay in-style. I know I sound sarcastic, but honestly I'm thanking you. |
