Question - LooneyTunerIan - 11-23-2016 Did anybody come across this message in the comment box on the main site? "Are you about to post a meme or make a request? If so, turn back now. Spam and Requests will result in the revocation of your site privileges." Is it just me or did anyone else see this message? Was there a news thread about this change? RE: Question - Petie - 11-23-2016 That's a message I added today in response to the massive amount of spam comments being made recently. There was no news thread or annoumcement because the rules here apply to the sites as well. People have just been ignoring them. This is basically one global warning that people need to start behaving in comments. RE: Question - eureka - 11-23-2016 For the record, by spam comments do you mean actual long walls of random letters, or just people ironically posting "GRAND DAD" and "FLEENTSTONES" on any game page? Because if it's the latter, that's... seeming kinda petty, tbh RE: Question - Petie - 11-23-2016 I mean both. Memes, as specifically mentioned, do nothing but spam up the page and make important comments (like "this sheet needs x to be complete") more difficult to find. There were two game pages today that I went through and found the same joke spammed 7+ times in a row - you can call it petty but I call it spam. Either way, it's not helping anyone. RE: Question - LooneyTunerIan - 11-23-2016 So does that mean no more requests on the site and forum? Does this also mean that the Requests Sub-Forum will be closed and removed? RE: Question - Garamonde - 11-23-2016 Requests were never really permitted on the main site. They're just annoying and newcomers try to use it as a way to bypass the forum's rules. Don't join just to ask for shit, yo RE: Question - Petie - 11-23-2016 Requests, as always, are only allowed in the requests section. RE: Question - Filler - 11-23-2016 I'm actually really glad that this is a rule now. As most of the time, spamming just caused a toxic comment section, and this will reduce it. But I'm wondering, how strict is this rule? I can understand 1-2 word spam being repeated without it being related to the context of content being worthy of being a flat-out no. But what about something that is actually funny with it being in context of the content? Or is that a flat out no? RE: Question - Dolphman - 11-24-2016 Anything related to Grand Dad, Vincesauce, SilvaGunner or Undertale memes should be deleted as they got way too annoying. That's just one of the things that make me hate Undertale and its fans. Along with the characters and memes being spammed in Miiverse. Thank you for making this rule. I know we don't want them to be as bad as YouTube or KYM comments. RE: Question - Petie - 11-24-2016 There is no leeway here. The rule was put into place specifically to combat those "funny" and relevant memes being thrown around constantly. Posts like that, regardless of the context, do nothing but invite further spam. It's a shame it has to be like this but I removed upwards of 15 comments today and that was only from two pages. RE: Question - LooneyTunerIan - 11-24-2016 So... in other words, Requests are only allowed on the forum? Glad to see you've done a marvellous job of hiding your true colours, Ian. Always the subtle type. I made this as explicit as it can possibly be like four posts before you asked that. (11-23-2016, 07:43 PM)Petie Wrote: Requests, as always, are only allowed in the requests section. In case that's not clear though, requests are only allowed on the forum in the specific requests section. They are not allowed (nor have they ever been allowed) anywhere else on the entire network. Not the site, not other sections of the forum, not by email. Literally only there. RE: Question - miyabi95_ - 11-26-2016 let the webmasters do their thing, ian. geez. and just to clear things up, we're allowed to post general thoughts that are relevant to whatever page we're on, right? |
