GameCube .mlt format? - auroraknux - 05-18-2017

Hello there!

So, I've been trying to rip the sound effects from a GameCube game. I have all of the files from the game extracted, but there's one problem: the files that I believe to be the ones I'm looking for are in the .mlt format. I've spent hours on Google, and can't find any information on the file format, or anything that could help me convert/extract the sounds.

The voice clips from the game are already available on the Sounds Resource--and I'm pretty sure those were also in the .mlt format, so it has to be possible to rip them. The question is, how? Please, does anyone know what to do? I'm completely stumped. Sad

Thanks in advance!

(P. S. Is the specific game I'm trying to rip from an important detail to include? Or does it not make any difference what game it is?)

the least you could do is tell what game you're talking about. it also helps a lot if you can attach a sample file for us to inspect

Sorry, I didn't know if that was important or not. To clarify, I wanted to rip the sound effects from Shadow the Hedgehog (just for the fun of it; please don't laugh at me Rolleyes ).

I tried to attach a few of the files I found, but I'm having some issues, so I hope it's okay if I put them on Google Docs and link to them. Let me know if you need me to include more of them, or anything else.

I believe "B2_WEAPONS" contains the sounds I'm looking for, but since I can barely find any info on the file format, I'm not 100% sure. As for "B3_SHADOW_E" and "B3_SHADOW_J", judging by their names I'm guessing that they're Shadow's English and Japanese voice clips (respectively), and those have already been posted on the site (or at least the English ones have), so I'm assuming it's possible to rip them. I just want to know how.

Again, thanks in advance!

(P. S. Sorry for being such a "noob". But hey, we all have to get our experience from somewhere. Tongue )

welp, opening the files in a hex editor shows that the files begin with the string "gcaxMLT"
Googling gcaxMLT shows no real results, but I googled 'gcax file format' and found this site. It could be that GCAX is the compression format and the program you find in the page will decompress the files.
That's all I got sorry, dunno if this helps.

you're absolutely right!

Unfortunately, the program didn't help, but thanks anyway. (All it could do with the files was compress them to GCA or EXE files, and extract the original files again.)

After a bit more digging, I found this, which contains links to some kind of .mlt extractor thing: http://forums.sonicretro.org/index.php?showtopic=17091&st=1881

However, it seems to be meant for the Sonic Adventure games, which were on the Dreamcast (while the game I'm trying to rip from is for Gamecube).

So I guess I'm back at square one. Tongue I still appreciate the help, though!
