Greetings one and all... - DigiMaverickWorld0rder - 06-25-2020

Hello everyone, I've been thinking of joining this site for a while, and finally wracked up the nerve for it. In any case, allow me to introduce myself; I'm GamrCW2, and well, I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help show me the ropes around here, and whatnot; but all good regardless. Either way, guess I'll share some of my interests and the like.

First and foremost obviously would be gaming. I've always loved video games, ever since I got my first console, the good old SNES; to this day one of my top three favorite systems alongside the PS2 and GBA. With that said, my favorite games, in no particular order are...
  • The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (my first game ever, in fact Wink )
  • MegaMan Maverick Hunter X
  • MegaMan Xtreme 2
  • MegaMan X5
  • MegaMan X8
  • MegaMan X Command Mission
  • MegaMan 8
  • MegaMan Zero 3
  • MegaMan Zero 4
  • MegaMan Legends 2
  • Donkey Kong Country 2
  • Donkey Kong Country 3 (more so the SNES original)
  • Medievil
  • Rayman
  • Rayman 2 (the PS1 version specifically, even if it isn't as highly regarded as its other releases)
  • Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage
  • The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night
  • Crash Bandicoot Warped
  • Crash Twinsanity
  • Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced
  • Sonic 3 & Knuckles
  • Sonic Advance 3
  • Sonic Rush Adventure
  • Sonic Colors (the Nintendo DS version specifically)
  • Gex: Enter the Gecko
  • Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko
  • Kirby's Dreamland 3
  • Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
  • Kirby Super Star Ultra
  • Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Version(s)
  • And finally, last but not least, Digimon World 3 (an all time favorite of mine Genki ^_^ )
Whew... that should do. As you can see, I have quite a list of favorite video games. Platformers are my main thing, though an RPG here or there can be a welcome change of pace (though I'm kinda picky when it comes to them). I do kinda like puzzle games too, even if I'm not the best at 'em, but strategy games aren't typically my thing for whatever reason, though I have played one or two at the very least. All in all though, I consider myself a retro gamer for the most part, since after the Nintendo Wii, I haven't had much interest in newer games and systems, save perhaps the Nintendo Switch; too bad I can't afford one (not for the foreseeable future anyway) Cry .

Anyway, another, more recent interest of mine is spritework. I've dabbled in it a little here and there, but not much, and I wouldn't consider myself a pro. Even so, it's helped me grow an appreciation for spriting, especially since it's a core aspect of gaming in general. In fact, one of my hopes is to one day have a fangame or two to my name, maybe more; but for now, I'm content to just share my ideas and whatever have you.

Welcome!

That's quite the list! My favorite game list is probably around the same length though... I'm a Kirby fan as well! I'm not sure about favorites, but The Amazing Mirror and Super Star/Super Star Ultra are definitely up there. I actually like Digimon World more than Digimon World 3 myself, but Digimon World 3 is probably the better game in all honesty.

I'm relatively new here myself, but I'd love to help you where I can! If you ever have anything you want to show off or got advice on you can submit it to the Custom Sprites / Pixel Art forum the forums are relatively slow, so don't get discouraged if you don't hear back from people immediately. You can also try PMing people if you ever have specific questions. If you are looking for a tutorial of sorts, the Spriting Dictionary has a lot of useful information. When you are ready to submit, check out this guide for the process and other tips. I hope that helps you! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Ah. I see. I have the first game also, but yeah, I'm much more partial to DW3; have the fourth Digimon World game too, but I digress. But anyway, as for the links you provided, and your other advice, I will keep those things in mind. By the way, my favorite game series over all is actually MegaMan. Big Grin That said, the series isn't necessarily my first order of business for why I joined. In fact, mind if I PM you about something? Either way, thanks for the welcome.

I have Digimon World 4 as well! I don't recall liking it as much as the others. Like I said, feel free to PM me whenever you'd like. I'll help you in any way that I can.

Okay then. I look forward to it. Thank you kindly. Thumbs Up

And yeah, DW4 is... okay I guess. Sorta kinda anyway. I mainly got it 'cause it was Digimon; that and it has Dorumon in it. Kind of a shame it's the closest we ever got to a direct followup to DW3 itself, considering it mentions its servers; even having you traverse a warped version of one. Between you and me, I really think instead of returning to the V-pet style of gameplay going forward, the series should've stuck to the DW3 setup. Mind you, I haven't played -Next 0rder- since I don't have a PS4, or Re: Digitize since it was Japan only, so even if they have perfected the V-pet style with those two, I still would've liked for them to have kept the DW3 style of gameplay; at least for a little while. It had a lot of potential, it did. Either way, I think you and I can both agree that Digimon World Data Squad was a letdown; if not an outright disservice to the Digimon World brand, regardless of it being a Data Squad tie in. I honestly expected better from it, but it just didn't hit the spot at all. I traded that one in right after I beat the main campaign, and never looked back.

I almost forgot about Data Squad! Yeah, wasn't a fan of that one. I wasn't even aware of the show at the time, so I really didn't know what was going on.

I haven't actually checked out new Digimon anything for about a decade at this point, so I don't know much about any of the new games. That being said, I do want to check out Cyber Sleuth at some point.

The last Digimon games I got were Digimon World: DS and Digimon World: Dusk. I don't remember much about the story in either case, but if memory serves I think the gameplay was kind of a mix between Digimon World 2 and 3. You ran around the world like you did in 3, but you were able to get all sorts of different Digimon like you did in 2. The Digimon themselves had different digivolution paths and were able to de-digivolve, so more like 3 in that regard as well.

RE: Greetings one and all... - DigiMaverickWorld0rder - 06-26-2020

Hmm... I see. I actually passed on Digimon World DS, and its sequels Dawn and Dusk, 'cause DW3 spoiled me with how it handled its battle screen. I... wasn't too hip on the first person approach that the DS Digimon World games utilized. Like I said, I'm kinda picky when it comes to RPGs. There is one exception to my passing over the handheld Digimon World games though, and that's Digimon World Championship, which is also the last Digimon game I've picked up as of now. It's... Mmm... I dunno. It's a little like the original Digimon World, only without the ability to directly control your Digimon in battle at all (besides from some suggestions going into battle). In other words, they basically turned it into a strategy games of sorts; which as I said, isn't normally my thing.  Rolleyes  I hear you can control your Digimon in battle as a reward for beating the game, but why not just have that a feature out the gate, considering all the other games let you do that? I honestly consider it a series low point, though marginally less so than Digimon World Data Squad.
