[TUTORIAL] Dreamcast Texture Ripping - DreamMare - 02-23-2021 Hello everybody, I've been trying to get models from Dreamcast games and unfortunately I still can't, but in that process I found a good way to get the textures for said models. There are 2 softwares I use for texture ripping: NinjaRipper 1.7.1 and TexMod. NinjaRipper is a well-known software that only functions with DirectX applications, people know it more for model ripping but it's useful for texture ripping; Texmod is a software only for textures, but on that regard it's more precise for the job. Open the emulator you are using with texmod and play the game as normal until the textures are being shown in the screen, then use the numpad + or -, once it's green press the button you configurated for the extraction and that's it. It also works with things like the images used for menus, fonts and etc, if it's a image then texmod and ninjaripper will get it no matter what. So, are there any negative aspects of this method? Yes. To start, NinjaRipper negative: - Only gets textures that are shown in the screen, if a texture is behind a wall and the camera can't show it then it probably won't get the image; - When you press the button to get A texture, it will get ALL loaded textures, which is inconvenient since it can make duplicates; - It doesn't get the original name of the texture. Texmod negatives: - If you need to pass through multiple menus and worlds to just get one texture, then every single texture loaded before the one you want will be listed by Texmod, so when you want to find the texture via + and - is inconvenient; - Like NinjaRipper, it won't get the original name of the texture. Anyway, I'm a head out, if anyone finds a simpler way to get textures from a Dreamcast emulator (I'm using NullDC), please reply to this thread. ALSO, if anyone finds a consistent way to get models from it, please reply as well, I'm trying that for a year now. Bye everyone, see you other time. |
