Ripping from Lupin III FM Towns - Yawackhary - 03-29-2022

This is a long shot but want some help regarding Lupin the 3rd: Hong Kong no Mashu - Fukushuu wa Meikyuu no Hate ni for the FM Towns.

The file format is MDI and most of the pictures in the game are in a folder of the same name on the CD. Searching around online has found nothing regarding the FM Towns. Good news is that the files show up when using GGD but the bad news is unable to find the palette at all and don't look quite right.

This is what it should look like.

Also the first file 0001.MDI seems to have a something on top of the graphics, don't know whether it's garbage or compression. The others do show "garbage", in this example from 00-B0 but not as much as 0001. First thought that this was the palette but going through all the combinations (Endian, bpp, colour order) didn't help.

Attached both 0001.MDI and 0002.MDI to see if anyone is interested and appreciate any help.

RE: Ripping from Lupin III FM Towns - Mister Man - 03-31-2022

I found the palette of the picture in "0002.MDI". It's located at hex address 0x80 in the same file.

Each color of the palette uses 3 bytes, with each byte representing the red, green, and blue color components respectively:

Note, however, that the palette will look very dark when loaded in TiledGGD due of if not being converted from 12-bit RGB to 24-bit RGB.

To fix this, I recommend using GIMP's Stretch HSV command. After being processed, it should look like this:

Hopefully this helps!
