Sketches for a PS2 model ripper - scurest - 09-02-2024 Hey. Several people asked me about a PS2 model ripper after my last post. I've drawn up a rough sketch of one over the past few weeks that can dump OBJ files from PCSX2 that I wanted to share. This should be considered a rough prototype only. The quality is below even the already highly-imperfect DuckStation 3D Screenshot. Most games have problems and all require some amount of manual tweaking, scaling, and clean-up to get usable results. Nevertheless, I believe it advances on current tech in the following ways: models have both textures and vertex colors, perspective distortion is removed/reduced, and it is possible to get backfacing polys (at the cost of also getting tons of garbage you have to sort through). Links: Download it here. Read the instructions and my other scattered notes here. Showcase: I am probably not going to continue working on this, but maybe someone will find it interesting or want to continue it. RE: Sketches for a PS2 model ripper - Crimson Blade - 09-04-2024 Oh wow finally! PS2 Model ripping! I hope this doesn't get abandoned. I'll try this when I have time and see. I also hope the 3D screenshot for the PS1 gets updated aswell. Still, this is good news! EDIT: Unfortunately my laptop cannot run it. It says my CPU core isn't strong enough and I have to use an older PCSX2 version which is 1.6.0 or below. Such a shame on my part, but what can you do. RE: Sketches for a PS2 model ripper - squall789 - 09-19-2024 This is such an awesome thing to have done. I saw it had an update a week ago, but the documents are all the same, what changed? RE: Sketches for a PS2 model ripper - Devvy - 10-04-2024 THANK YOU SO MUCH! I've been trying to get models from various ps2 games throughout my childhood as I want to be able to make HD versions of them so it helps to have the low poly models to get proportions correct and It's basically been impossible as the old PCSX2 way of dumping Coned the models really badly and everything was stretched on a gradient so stuff that's further away would be stretched at a different scale than what's closer making it impossible to really un-distort properly. Everything may be stretched still but it's at-least square! I've only tried one game so far (SLAI) Here's the model after cleaning, rigging, and animating. RE: Sketches for a PS2 model ripper - Cavan Ashton - 10-22-2024 WOW! I was totally unaware of this! Awesome job dude! RE: Sketches for a PS2 model ripper - dionn1993 - 11-19-2024 This sound really cool ^.^ can't wait to try it out on some games. I'm so glade ps2 and ps1 games are getting better at being ripped. The old methoid was such a pain x-x (09-04-2024, 04:26 PM)Crimson Blade Wrote: Oh wow finally! PS2 Model ripping! I hope this doesn't get abandoned. I'll try this when I have time and see. You know duckstation has a off branch build for 3d model ripping right? Releases · scurest/duckstation-3D-Screenshot Youll need the blender cats plugin to create a atlas texture to merge all images together. Save the atlas file where the fbx model will be. Export the fbx model where the atlas texture is. An wala the ps1 model is patched. |
