Funny you say that. Before they retconned the ending so that it never happened

Ganbare Goemon 2 (famicom version) had that Ebisumaru was really a girl that was put under a curse (that breaks in the ending of course)

Which is why it was retconned out of the continuity. Just ask Sonia Belmont the first Belmont (at least until they cut her game out of the continuity) what that's like.
