He was kidding, it is really bad. Nothing distinguishes it as a manga style other than generic eyes and mouth. The lines are terribly rough on the head as if you were trying to keep your pencil on the paper the full way through. I don't even know what this is supposed to be, but I can tell the that the design is pretty bad as all of the feet are on the front.
