You mean aside from how it's unavoidable and is a factor in how (unless intentionally optimised) the Pokémon you have is different from other pokémon of the same species?
Specs 'n' Headphones has been revamped! Check it, yo.

Arthur probably doesn't play competitively. Which would be why he wouldn't care.

Although I understand the mechanics, I don't play the metagame. It's just that EVs are entirely non-optional. By defeating pokemon and gaining EXP, you're using EVs, whether you like it or not. Not caring would be either not playing, or just leaving your pokémon perpetually in daycare.

Ever sped-run through the Elite 4 or used the Match Call system to face specific trainers for the sake of Levelling? You've been EV training. Ever used the Macho Brace, even just to try it out? EV Training. Ever blown cash at the department store on Carbos and HP ups? Guess what you've been doing.

Not the point. Sure, you're EV training whether you like or not. But trying to avoid EV training and not caring about or understand EV training isn't the same thing. The latter is the majority of non-competitive Pokemon players. Not avoiding. Just not caring.

The comparison is essentially the same as Zelda players who don't care for collecting all the optional items and sub-missions. They usually will without realizing it, but they don't care.

No.

No. I don't equip my pokemon with anything besides EXP Share.
Quote:Ever blown cash at the department store on Carbos and HP ups?
No. I never use items. Not even potions.

It's not that I try to make the game harder for myself or anything, but... that's just how I play. :/
I never use items for some reason.

Therefore, I don't EV train.

So, if you don't refight the E4 or Match Call trainers, you just beat the main plotline... and stop? Considering there isn't much to do side from that, and I recall you saying you've neverplayed the Battle Frontier.

Yes.
I currently haven't beat D/P yet (on the last gym, but I stopped playing because of FFVIA) but maybe I'll try the battle frontier when i beat it.

edit- I'll refight the E4 though, but only for fun. Not for the sake of training.

Exactly, of course there's the obvious it happns without you doing it, but I don't nknow anythign abotu and therefore couldn't possibly try to control it even if I wanted to.
Haven't played Pokémon competatively since G/S/C.

I don't think collecting items on Zelda was a very good analogy for this a'cause you collect items and Pokémon in Pokémon.

Every time you beat a pokemon you are gaining ev's
Just clearing that up because it seems like people aren't getting that. On that subject, Iv's are even worse to get because you have to breed for them, and you may not even get the ones you want. There is a program that helps you abuse the RNG (random number generator), to make it faster. It's hard to get use to
