Maneko's Unusual Sprites

i specially mean locking yourself to a particular game's style

I'm not following any game style: I already dumped that crutch years ago to do things at my own will and pace, so read again what I wrote about that in case you missed it. (I know english isn't your first language, so you may have overlooked it.)

If anything, THIS is what I was doing 3 years ago, before abandoning forever the Neo Geo Pocket style: (And even this couldn't be considered as Neo geo pocket style anymore, but eh...)

See the huge difference? Horrendous color and shading issues apart, the small size left little to none space to put details like clothing, body size and correct proportions to show the character's age (Felicia is 28 years old, while Pink is on her late teens.) while my current style allows me to do whatever I want.

I'm almost positive the original message was meant as you trying something that isn't this style or a game style.

Break away from this style to get some practice in other techniques.

Its like using charcoal pencils when you use graphite from a certain company.

Ahhh, THAT. (Derp)

Well, as you can see on this same thread, I like to try other styles from time on time to see what else can I do and what new tricks I can learn, indeed. (This was another try at spriting on a different style as you can see, inspired by a conversation about what could happen if Felicia tried and struggled to wear a bathrobe during a visit to a spa.)

Right now I'm trying to give a try at imitating Shantae's style, since I liked how expressive it can be, despite the small size and low detail of it's sprites.

technically is the same thing except not resized. you just draw over the same base over and over changing arms or adding stuff.

mean, felica is quite a dinamic and agile character, you should really try to portrait that instead of making her look like a human statue.

It has been a while since I sprited anything, so I decided to make some goo 'ol NGP edits just for the hell of it. May expand them, may not, but opinions and suggestions are welcome anyways.

In my defense, the original NGP Leona sprites looked like that, which was the reason I chose them as a base for a tomboy character like Misty. )Tongue
OK, I will see what can I do to give her a more femenine air. (I suppose I could change her leg stance to begin.)

to be honest, making ngp edits is a step back.

I know. I haven't sprited anything since the earthquake and when I finally decided to sprite something (A FF XII Mithra sheet to be exact) I got stumped, so I began to try random stuff to recover the hang of it and the result is what you see here.
Once I finish these Mithra bases and Mithra outfits I will post them here for a heavy evaluation as well.

Man, how long has been? Ok, so I decided to give Misty a less "male" air by giving her a more femenine stance and polishing her outline's shape, but the problem is, I want to give her a tomboy air, because Misty is not supposed to be femenine to begin. (As much, Misty can be considered as cute, but not pretty.)

The first row are revised versions of the original sprites, the bottom row ditched the NGP bases to use scratched legs. Suggestions?

make something else than Neogeo Pocket styled sprites

I mean, you clearly have the skills for it. Why not?

Because I make a comic (not games) and that's the style of the characters on it. They are not NGP styled (3 colors AND size limit) or anything, it's just a free style that I ended up making by myself.

Now, I have tried other styles like Earthbound though, and I'm half ready to make a NES styled Duck Avenger sheet for a game project I've been thinking about for a long while, too.

*edit* Goddamn typos
