the PSX's version and its "HOLY SHIT WHY I CANT HIT THE FUCKING ZOMBIE IN FRONT ME OMG I HATE THE NOT AUTOMATIC AIMING SYSTEM THAT WAS IMPLEMENTED IN THE LATER RELASES" surely makes it way more cool.

get the gcn version. it has a much more developed atmosphere. it's also a little more difficult and your ammo is a bit more scarce. it's scary sometimes.!

as far as things go, the GCN version of one is probably the scariest, RE 0 has the best atmosphere, RE2 is probably the best story, and RE3 probably has the best mechanics of the regular RE games

Even if you don't like 0/1/2/3, try 4, It's a complete overhaul so you might like it even if you dislike the others.
