Smash Rosters
#46
I'm honestly amazed that Isaac isn't a playable character yet. Golden Sun is such a popular series(at least as far as I know, I love it, and everyone I talk to about it loves it), and he'd have such a ballin move set.

I'd love more Golden Sun love. Even if they didn't make Isaac playable, maybe they could make more assist trophies and a stage based in it. In Dark Dawn there was that obstacle course that summarized the first two games, that would be a funny stage. I'd probably prefer a more serious one though.

On the "Unlikely but I'd love it" side of things, I've been really wanting to see Croc in a Smash game. I don't know if it's because he started life as Yoshi or what, but his aesthetics are just really Nintendo, and I think he'd look super sweet in Smash style.

I actually just remembered the actual list of characters I'd have liked to be in the next Smash Bros AFTER the release of Brawl.

Mario: Bowser Jr
Zelda: Midna
DK: King K. Rool
F-Zero: Samurai Goroh
Star Fox: Krystal
Metroid: Sylux, Ridley
Earthbound: Claus, Porky
Pokemon: Deoxys
Kirby: Knuckle Joe
Fire Emblem: Lyn
Other: Little Mac, Isaac

I can actually see some of those being plausible choices still, others not so much. Also I randomly had 2 reps for Metroid and Earthbound because I wanted them to have more, mainly.

Do people actually care about Knuckle Joe? He strikes me as an odd choice for an assist trophy because he's a completely inconsequential character (he's not even really a character, honestly, just a generic enemy type)

I guess he had a bigger role in the anime, but I think he would be a pretty lame addition as a playable character. Kirby doesn't really need any more characters, but if they do get another rep there are at least a dozen other characters that are more relevant or interesting

I don't know what it was, but back in the day everyone I played Superstar with always wanted to play as Knuckle Joe (myself included). There's definitely many more characters I'd pick ahead of him, but if you'll notice most of that list is comprised of characters who were Assists in Brawl.

And you only had two characters from never used franchises?

They only ever seem to add one or two at a time.

again with the games promotion and all being released on the e-shop as virtual console game, i expect to see some new earthbound stuff. nintendo now knows people love this cult game, and will probably deliver some more of it this time around.

ness and probably lucas will return, maybe one of them with an update moveset. maybe a new fighter will be added. most logical choice would be porkey minch, as he fills the place of villain perfectly for both the represented games. maybe one of the other three, yet i don't think paula or poo would be any different from ness and lucas. so jeff is the most likely of them, if he doesn't return as an assist ofcourse.

i think music from the game will ( finally ) shine this time around. i'm 100% we're going to get porkey means business/cease to exist because they've used it in the e-shop trailer too, and they know how much of an extraordinary track it is and how much it stands out.

but i don't think we're going to see giygas back in any form. i would love to see him as an assist or a stage hazard even ( cave of the past would make an awesome stage ) but i don't think it's going to happen because of how he looks. when people first played earthbound and saw him it created quite a stir, and i don't think nintendo wants to do that again for a new (younger) audience.

as a stage we might get re-edition of onett or fourside, as those places stand out the most. i would love to have a fourside stage that takes place during the day.

but yeah, if we see new mother stuff, it's going to be (mostly) from earthbound

Brawl added franchises like Kid Icarus, Wario, Pikmin, and Robot series.

That's four.

So I'm hoping we'll get four new ones as well. So far we have two, Animal Crossing and Wii Fit.

Like I always say, I'd rather a diverse roster that covers many franchises than one that only covers the same few.

Oh, you were talking about franchises in general. Well by your count, saying that Isaac and Little Mac are somehow added, with the Villager and WF Trainer that still makes four, so...

I think one thing that people get too hung up on are imaginary counts and rules for how many characters HAVE to be added to a specific franchise's roster. It also never accounts for unexpected characters like G&W, ROB and the WF Trainer. When I make hypothetical rosters I don't really reach for characters like that because I'll almost certainly get it wrong (as if ANY of what I predict is any better).

Also, that list I posted most recently is the hypothetical roster I made immediately after Brawl. Like, the DAY the entire Brawl roster was discovered. My opinion has changed since then.

I like when people try talking about a "tradition" (such as dropping a Fire Emblem character) when there aren't enough games to logically form that basis.

so people, hear me out on this one

i've been walking around with this thought for a while now, and if you ask me; it isn't that far-fetched.

what if, if pokémon gets some kind of newcomer next to a returning mewtwo or/and lucario and it's...

There are plenty of more popular and deserving entrants from the Pokemon franchise, such as Meowth, Blaziken, Zoroark, Genesect, etc. Plus Mewtwo (and Lucario to some extent) would represent Gen 6 well enough, as they're among the first pokemon confirmed to Mega Evolve, and even Jigglypuff would add some representation as well with her newly added Fairy type.
Plus, the fact that she's a female (or feminine looking, given it can be both male and female) means jack squat, as gender doesn't affect your chances of entering the roster.
