I use 3ds max, but instead of selecting the "convert textures to DDS", I just let the textures be exported to a BNTX file, and then I hex edit the bntx to give each texture the texture format it's using, which is mostly BC7_UNorm, atm no current public tools has been updated to support BC7_unorm, R8A8_unorm, or R8G8B8A8_unorm formats for XCDE.

Based on some of the game's text/table data, it looks like it. I can't prove it via model inspection yet though.

Figured I'd ask this XC1DE question here because it seems to apply to XC2 as well and someone might already know: Several models have textures named only "temp0000" that are only red and green channels. What are these for? I'm guessing from context that green is for specularity but have no idea what the red could then be.

Example of Shulk's arm plus bracelet, colour on left and mystery on right:

the 2 channels is for roughness and metal maps, the blue channel is always black, but in XC2, it was for AO maps, but there's no ao maps this time around, altho have came across some for head accessories that uses AO as it's own texture file.

I'm actively working on Shulk right now. Once I reach a significant milestone I'll either post in my thread or make a new "come get it" one (so we don't pollute the XC2 thread too much with XC1DE-only stuff). Other party members will be next.

This is me yes.

Also I might as well post here too becaue it's relevant to XC2: anyone know anything about .wilay files? They're used for sprite data somehow, but the googles seem devoid of anything useful for them. From a look at the raw hex they might be more than just raw image files.
