The one thing I've always found amazing was that the sonic games don't really sound like Genesis games.

Wait, what?

Go listen to the music from any other genesis game. Hear the "twang" soundchip?
Even the streets of rage series (with their amazing soundtracks) falls victim to it, but none of the Sonic games really have that distinct genesis sound.

For years, I had always thought there was some sort of special filter or soundfont reserved exclusively for the sonic games, but after a close listen, the "twang" and other genesis sounds are still there; it's just that sonic team did a really fucking good job of using them in the correct places to make them sound good.
