Koopaul, try a little thing called "Taking off your fucking nostalgia goggles". It's 2010. 1990 was twenty years ago, and gaming has evolved since then. You need to broaden your horizons and realize that your little isolated bubble of games aren't the only options you have.
Jesus Christ, get out and go to a game store and try something that isn't Mario for once.
Also, another thing I loved about Bioshock is that every part of the gameplay just melted right in with the story. Even the numerous weapons you get all have meaning to them. You find the pistol being cradled by a Splicer in a stroller, and you find the chemical thrower shortly shortly after Julie Langford was poisoned. The seamless blending of gameplay and story was just fantastic for me.
