Pillow shading basically means that every shade or layer of colors on the sprite is the exact same shape as the one before hand. Usually the light reference is in the direct middle but in some cases like yours it isn't.
Besides how is it a result of practicing shading if you said that they are over a year old? That doesn't make any sense. Don't come up excuses for shitty shading just listen to people's criticisms and try to get better as you go along.
Also don't use the paint circle tool. It doesn't make perfect circles to the human eye. It does mathematically but not by perception.
