Hi Hello Hi I have staff forum questions (probably needs a little ho-hum behind the scenes football huddle)

I posted this in General Discussion.

Can we just call this forum the General Lounge?

"General" being you can talk about basically anything
and "Lounge" because of its relaxed nature.

My suggestion still stands. Given that the nature of GD has changed, I think a name change would be appropriate to reflect its new status. (I don't understand why it has to be hidden, though)

I mean, given its new relaxed nature, "General Lounge" seems appropriate - "General" being the span of topics (everything) and "Lounge" implying it's a relaxed place to talk about anything. Unless you're profoundly affected by the past events of the community to the point where you visibly cringe every time you see the word "Lounge", I'm not sure how it would be an issue. Sure, "the lounge" might be a stigma, but that's because we only placed it on the name itself. Why not remember "the Lounge" as one of the best parts of our site because we can still talk about anything?

Also, some other suggestions:

• If GD is hidden because it can show our compromising side (???), why not hide the Hello/Goodbye forum as well? I mean, can't Norman New User click on it and say "oh HE joined this site? ugh hes a DICK i'll go join a better site"
  plus, you can make your account, "unlock" the Hello/Goodbye forum and feel like "oh cool this forum appeared for me, time to go post in it"
  
• I asked about a Serious Discussion forum to contrast with GD and the Lounge...this was months ago, and the consensus within the topic seemed to be for it...but it never happened.

Given the recent change in the way the community is arranged, would the staff consider the Serious Discussion forum now, especially given the shifts in the forum structure?

Ideally, I'd think a subforum in Real Life would probably be the best bet so it's confidential though relevant; unless you want to put it directly under GD (so our Serious Discussion would be outwardly facing to guest posters)

This would be a perfect candidate for what belongs in Serious Discussion. I really would like a forum like this, so we could talk about current, real-world news and share our views and thoughts on them in a more "professional", more serious manner. I like the flow of the discussion of that topic, and I'd love to see a subforum with similar posts talking about other real issues that affect our world - like privacy on the Internet (NSA, Edward Snowden); net neutrality; terrorism (Nigerian kidnappings, Islamic State's campaign in Iraq and its effect on the Middle East and the rest of the world); etc. that are prone to being derailed by subpar posting.
Honestly, I'd like it if it had strict guidelines and a moderator (not me, I can't stay serious enough eheh) whose sole responsibility was to keep a close eye on topics and enforce that discussions stay civil under all circumstances, with zero-tolerance consequences for those that don't honor it.

Regarding the Serious Discussion - please do consider it and talk amongst yourselves.
Have a serious discussion about Serious Discussion, lol - and I'm sure the community would gladly offer their two cents on it as well if asked.
