I'm using the desktop version and I can barely see the difference between them. I have a similar suggestion though. Somewhat?
Why not change the way certain smilies are typed? An example would be shocked
and shy 
where you have to type the word in colons. Why not change them to be simpler and easier to remember (I say that because a few kinda slip your mind often)? Shocked could be typed as (@_@) and shy could be typed as (:'>) or something similar.
