Well, iirc, your original suggestion had an example minimum amount of $2
Why not a donation kind of thing with a minimum amount of $2 , and if so desired or necessary, a max amount. (like say, $50, just for this example)
The problem I see with what you're suggestion is that this creates a "payment levels" system, or can. This could create a division in the donators/supporters, especially if some of the perks are re-arranged to suit said set-up.
so, basically, could have:
$2 - no ads
$5 - no ads, submission priority (basically, of all pending submissions, yours are processed, first. Wouldn't impact if they're approved, just how long it takes)
$10 - no ads, submission priority, private chatroom
etc...
This is just an example of how a payment levels thing could work.
It's bad enough that giving perks to donators/supporters can create a divide in the entire userbase, but to take it a step further and divide the donators/supporter? nope...
And, sure, you could offer same perks to anyone, but then the ones paying more might get upset because they feel like they deserve more.
TBH, on a borderline unrelated note, I partially agree with the new MC EULA in that I dislike incentivized donations for this exact reason. so-called "non-supporters" kinda get screwed. This is one reason why free-to-play has an alternate term: "pay-to-win". premium players tend to get too much advantage.
EDIT: dammit Petie, got yours posted before mine! XD
