Very much what Jazz said, 3D to VR is like 2D to 3D. It'll be a new way of playing games, a new style of game, but I highly doubt it overtaking everything else. Modern 2D games are just as interesting, fun, and playable as 3D games, and I'm sure it'll be a similar thing. It will add, not consume.
In terms of acquiring it... as much as I'd love to, it's not cheap. Even more so here in NZ than in the US or UK, I imagine. It'll be a while before it's actually an affordable investment. When that time comes though, I will be very interested in getting it as I can see a lot of things happening with it. I'd love to mess about with making my own things for it too.
