XMD/PKD Archive extraction help

From Piglet's Big Game (GC, PS2), most of the files are stored in the PKD file, with the XMD seemingly being a paired header/file system for it as seen in hex

Years ago ALuigi made a quickbms script for it (seen here), though it has some issues
-The PKD has a folder system with many duplicates of files distributed per stage. The script can't make folders, so forced renames occur
-It seems to corrupt the DFF and BSP files, seen here with the RWAnalyze tool. Even the Renderware SDK can't load it

I want to be able to mod the game, though lack of being able to extract/repack assets hampers that. Same for corrupted DFFs
