AA is Anti-Aliasing, adding pixels of a slightly lighter/darker shade on the edge of a block of colour to make the edge look 'smoother'. If you notice, there are now short lines of grey pixels on that edge.
It looks smoother, but those pixels'll stand out if you put that sprite on a dark background.
