The sprite style clashing is really annoying and honestly sort of ugly.
It wouldn't be so bad if the content within a level (or better yet within a world) was on a unified style, but some of the levels really do feel like you just offloaded a load of random graphics in at once and called it a day. The pseudo 3D of DKC sprites don't work with flat Mario BGs, and Metal Slug cars stick out next to Mario blocks and photorealistic backgrounds.
1) It gives it more of a "fusiony" feel where something from one universe was lifted and put in another universe
2) We really dont have anywhere near enough spriters to sprite everything in one style, it would waste a lot of time and would be a ton of work on the few spriters we have.
Trust me, the clashing has been mentioned by a LOT of people, but its simply easier on the devs to just use graphics from their representative games.

I can understand about the workload, but it's the professionalism of it.
I mean there are plenty of crossover games already in existance, both fanmade and official that take the time to make sure that the characters are at least of similar colour counts and sizes. It could be Namco X Capcom or Super Mario Crossover, that extra bit of time taken makes everything feel cohesive as a result.
Specs 'n' Headphones has been revamped! Check it, yo.
Thanks to Pik and Solink; they are sexy people.

The game has to have sprite clashing in most situations that involve traveling from an universe to another, like Mario koopas in the real world (where the Metal Slug and Donkey Kong Country stuff is from), etc. It's supposed to be that way.
About the levels/worlds where it's not supposed to be like it, we're doing our best, for example World 2 uses realistic content in general (plus stuff from other worlds that aren't from there, like Mario's enemies), World 3, the Mega Man world, all the sprites we do have the Wily Wars style. World 4 where the Castlevania, Doom and GnG stuff is from, the sprites don't clash a lot, etc. Mario's world uses the All-Stars + SMW/NSMB styles.
There are levels that don't match the world's style of course, but even in those we're trying to have the "native" content unique to that level.
I know there are some things wrong like realistic backgrounds in the Mario world, we're trying to fix those issues, but getting the whole game or whole worlds with no unique-level exceptions or all the crossover content having the same spriting style is something impossible for us to do, there's just too much content.

Our forums died, well, all IPBFree did, and it looks like it's permanent, however, we already moved, these are our new boards if you're interested on following the game's development closer.

Just a small update.
I don't know how many of you remember ID Software's first person shooter game, Quake 1, good old times!
There will be a level based on it, and here's the boss!

The Aztec level looks like fun! This game is a bit of a patchwork, but it looks like you could have a good time playing it!

MKF. Awesome game from what I saw on youtube, but when I try to run it, it slows this PC to an almost dead stop, and when the game does start, it's slow as hell. I may never be able to play this game unless I get a better PC, but I really would like to play it someday.

yeah, that's our biggest flaw, the game is huge and Game Maker isn't the most resource-friendly tool
we've been running various tests, it looks like the minimum requirements to run it at full speed are a 2 GHz processor and 1.5 GB on RAM; video cards could help too, and keeping the computer well ventilated and without dust
