How the heck do I post an icon under my name and status?!

At the top left of your screen, you will see a "User CP"(control panel). Click that, and in the side menu on the left of the screen, find the "edit Avatar" and the "edit signature".

I meant an icon on your signature. PNG doesn't seem to work.

If you want to have an image in your signature (just as you do have now), all you have to do is to put the image URL between the img-tag:

It's the same as putting an image into a post.
PNG does work quite well (depending on the viewers browser, but all common ones support it).
