it's not a trailer for a game or movie, this only cost about 100$ jeri Ryan (the chick who played sonia) says it was a directors (thge guy who did the FAME remake) pitch for a MK movie to warner br0s

Pretty much, it's someone asking for the job for redoing Mortal Combat. I believe this Director was the same who did Street Fighter Legacy.

Also, I'm pretty much more privy to Mortal Kombat being borderline Real and Outerworld. The fact it wasn't mentioned in this attempt was a testament to how much Hollywood money is needed to make Outerworld believable.

Looking at Mortal Combat then and what people are trying to do now, I believe even the younger me would have been more into the realism.

But Mortal Kombat isn't about realism. It's a corny and campy supernatural, so-violent-it's-cartoony series about fighting. You drop that and it's only a shadow of its former self.

Notice how every MK game after 4(which people are on the fence about) is total garbage? That's because Boon tried to resurrect a series that was meant to die with the 90s. His brain is still stuck in 1994, when Mortal Kombat was still relevant. Mortal Kombat is its own formula, this "new trailer" thing is just Mortal Kombat pulling the "me, too" card because they've run out of originality and Boon has driven his own child into the ground.

The worst thing MK could do would be to reboot itself in a too-serious tone. Batman Begins this ain't. It was successful because it WAS so over the top. By pulling back the reigns, they'd bring it into trying-too-hard-but-being-too-hokey land where the Street Fighter Chun Li movie resides.

look a movie trailer that covered every important subject of the mortal kombat series in less than 2 minutes

the fact that they got rid of all of the outworld races and just made them fucked-up human beings already shows that they completely dropped the original MK storyline completely, with the only continuity being that scorpion and sub-zero are rivals

they didn't even talk about raiden, one of the most important characters in the series-- how much you wanna bet that raiden isn't even a god anymore and that scorpion and sub-zero are just another messed up human being

but who knows maybe the plot won't be as farfetched as the fucking king of fighters movie
i mean it's cool that they're trying to reboot the MK series and putting forth effort, but they're changing way too much for it to even be the same thing
that just sounded like the koopaul everyone rages agaisnt.

that was like comparing Batman with Batman Begins. i swear i tried to find the right words to explain myself better, but they're two different interpretations of the same character/story spawned in two different time periods from two different cultures.

but the subject is still the same, the characters ARE there, just that the whole story is now shown in a way it would make "sense" to have a bunch of freaks with superpowers killing each other in a tournament.

besides its a fucking teaser/trailer jesus christ, if you're going to say "this 2 minutes trailer covers the most important points" is because the plot is so terribly basic you only need 30 seconds to explain that "good guys fight bad guys then fight the most evil guy" and then fill the rest with flashy fight sequences and a catchy tune.

REALLY

the difference is that a "koopaul rant" is about nostalgia and nothing else, whereas my qualms are completely legitimate because they completely fucked with the MK formula that made MK what it is-- a cheesy and over-the-top supernatural series about good vs evil, gods vs gods. there are no outworld races anymore, in fact the outworld probably doesn't even EXIST in this new "interpretation" of mortal kombat, and they're now jumping on the "me too" bandwagon of "dark and gritty" that most movies are jumping onto. MK has never taken itself seriously until MK Deadly Alliance-- and notice how that game and every game after it is complete shit? i wonder why.

saying i'm bitching about this "new MK" and telling me i'm wrong is like telling everybody that bitched about that garbage cyberpunk "urban/futuristic" bastardization of the super mario bros. is wrong. :l

MK is a shadow of its former self and doing this movie will not bring it back to relevance-- in fact it'll probably take that away. the old dog should have died with MK Armageddon because Boon and his team of idiots don't know how to make a good game in this generation, or write a "serious" and coherent storyline.

don't get me wrong, i'm all for new ideas, but if your new idea is to "reboot" a series but remove almost everything that made the series what it is, you shouldn't be allowed to touch that series.
also the difference is that batman and batman begins aren't horribly different-- batman's parents died, he goes through years of training, he becomes batman, he fights crime. it's a reboot but it still keeps the storyline intact. whereas this jumps into something completely different keeping only a few themes like scorpion and sub-zero being rivals and... johnny cage dying (because he's a shitty character)

because no one else here seems to care at all because we dont care about what mk used to be and what it is now, chalking it up to not exactly nostalgia, but you trying to tell everyone that the older it was the better and that every thing new is lesser

just like koopaul

so because i care about the continuity of a series that i grew up with that started to sharply decline and go even further into what it isn't, i'm bitching??? isn't the point of a topic to express your opinions about something that you may or may not approve of????????

??????????????????

edit: and AGAIN its not nostalgia it's a proven fucking fact that the MK series turned to shit after deadly alliance, again, because Boon and his team of idiots don't know how to make a good game anymore

i've said this already but it's like telling everybody who hated that piece of shit super mario bros movie, or the mixed-reactions transformer movies, that they're wrong for their reasons for disliking them
here let me quote a post from another forum that pretty much sums up everything that i said without being all "LOL HURR KOOPAUL............"

Quote:Seriously, this is the same shit as making that gritty cyberpunk Mario movie with Dennis Hopper as Koopa.

I don't see problems with change, but fucking up the whole tone of the series is just retarded, might as well call it it Kortal Mombat and act like it's a new franchise so you won't have to pay the owners royalties.
