The bed is still a bit buggy, so you might not be able to get it to work all the time.

I heard about a glitch where monsters will be able to spawn in lit places and near you if you're in bed. Just wait until Notch fixes it.

What are some good strategies for fighting about seven Ghasts at one time

Run. Seriously.

Though, I've seen awesome vids of Ghast hunters; they usually use a fishing rod/diamond sword combination to reel them in, then slice 'em. Bows also make them relatively easy.

Well I've got a Diamond Sword and a Bow with about 70 arrows, but the Ghasts are really fucking far away.

fishing pole will get them closer to you.

Yes, I'm quite aware of that, but the Ghasts are too fucking far away for a Fishing pole to be able to catch.

... Unless you have things like SDK Guns mod, in which case, why in the world are you asking? Just make a freakin' rocket launcher already.

Or if you were on smp with runecraft you could make a bridge master! or fly! (but I don't know if flying w/ rc works in the nether...)
