8-bit Krueger help
#1
I am working on an 8-bit style horror comic relating to the classic slashers, such as Freddy, Jason, Michael Myers, etc., and I want to use Freddy Krueger's NES sprites. Problem is, there is always too much black in the backgrounds where Freddy is encountered, to the point where I can't tell which black parts belong to Freddy, and which ones belong to the background. Can someone please help me out?

You don't necessarily have to rip them, I would just like some tips on how to effectively rip Freddy's sprites without using a tile editor; I'm not the best at those...

One possible way is to hack the palette with a hex editor, screenshot when the sprites you need are on the screen, take the sprites from there and then recolor them when you put them on the sheet.

This can help.
