Because Rareware made him cool.

Fucking Rareware made him a powerhouse.


Now Rare isn't with Nintendo.
Donkey stopped being outstanding.


Donkey Kong hasn't been outstanding since 1999.

I'm not sure about this new one. Getting rid of the Kremlins is really iffy.

Still if there was a really good answer as to why the DK cast doesn't get the love like cast of other Nintendo titles I'd appreciate this. Its been a long debated subject over there.

Rareware.
It's Rareware.
They made all of the good Donkey Kong games.
But it's been about 10 years since they made one.
And Nintendo tried to make them again.
And they didn't match up.

Nintendo just didn't put any effort into make him a huge character, where as Rare did. Rare leaves; goes back to Nintendo; Nintendo makes more spinoffs.

All people seem to care about is the return of Donkey Kong Country and not so much the cast itself. In other words:

The biggest problem with the Donkey Kong franchise and its fandom is that it does not have a fandom - not one on the level of Mario, Zelda, Metroid, even Starfox. These people are not fans of Donkey Kong Country the series - they are fans of Donkey Kong Country the game. That is why Jungle Beat was met with such fanfare: so what if there's no characters from the other games? We don't even remember those characters anyway! It's a sidescroller! It's just like DKC! Woooo! Thanks, Nintendo! Who needs Rare?

They had one game and never game back.
They also just popped up at once, not seen before;
new games comes out and then they never come back.
They had no staying power.

Why the hell would it be important at all if it's DKC.
Besides, rare never even invented Donkey Kong in the first place.
I mean sure, DKC was a milestone but it seems like somehow you're forgetting the fact that it won't matter how nintendo uses the franchise.
It's nintendo, as long as it's DK or Mario it will sell one way or another.
