Nope, like Chad said, they were only named after them in ENGLISH, but the hitmons were based on Hiroyuki Ebihara and Tadashi Saramura, boxer/kickboxers, thus their Japanses names are Ebiwalar and Sawamular. Hitmontop's Japanese name comes from a Brazilian fighting style which involves spinning kicks.

Hitmontop's jap name is Kapoelar, which comes from 'Capoeira' (basically yes, you're right)

Also Darkrai is a dumb name because it is a combination of Dark and Kurai (dark in Jap)

Gary would like to have a few words with you about episode 63 "Battle of the Badge" and the first movie.

You guys are missing the point

What happens in the anime isn't controlled by Game Freak. What's true in the anime might not necessarily be true in the game world, which is, in a sense, more official. And the anime and the game worlds are clearly different, I don't think I need to explain why.

After the shitstorm of incredibly over-the-top "Pokemon said-to-be-creator-of-_______" legendaries from 3rd generation and forward, I prefer to think they're mostly mythological and don't actually exist.

As for the question of the origin of Pokemon, some times it was hinted that the world of Pokemon have regular animals. There are regular plants and trees in the Pokemon world, and "Pokemon" plants and trees. There are humans and "humanoid Pokemon". I remember being hinted sometimes that Pokemon have alien origins, specially because of the Moon Stones and Pokemon like Clefairy and Deoxys. So I think they're alien-like forms that adequated and evolved to life on Earth, thus creating the Pokemon we know today.

A pokedex entry for one pokemon, I think it was gastly, in one of the games mentions that it can suffocate an indian elephant or something like that

edit: also Raichu's tail can knock out an indian elephant with electricity. Apparently there are a lot of indian elephants in the Pokemon world

It was related to the discussion of WHO CAME FIRST ARCEUS OR MEW in the thread and how Pokemons that created time, space, land, air, water, paper, etc collide with the fact that Mew is (or was?) supposed to be the origin of all Pokemon.

Are you telling me that all the trees in the games are actually Pokemon?

Are you telling me that i'm headbutting Pokemons to get other Pokemons out of it?!?! Or that I'm literally KILLING Pokemons with Cut to go through certain areas? My fucking God, I'm a terrible person Cry

Anime and game may be separate, but the Pikachu and Jigglypuff in the SSB series are clearly meant to be the characters from the anime.

Same with Mewtwo and Lucario.

Animals in the Pokemon world are as real as careers that don't involve Pokemon. Or a person who doesn't own a shelf crammed with Pokemon Magazines.

Their society is seriously screwed when all the schools ever teach is about how poison affects Pokemon.
