(note: I'm not attempting pokemon style, and I didn't use the HGSS Vs. Portrait as a reference because it wasn't meant to be based off it, this
just simple custom pixels)
WIP, Not sure if I should selout the outlines though.
I'm having trouble with his hands, too. Both aligning and shading.
Any pointers on this?
Feel free to crit anything else too.

the hair nearly looks pillowed

other then that, I actually think this is pretty good, comparing it with the actual style.

This looks really good, and the only crit I can put forward is his left fist. It seems a little too round and ball-like, unlike the human fist. While this would be okay (almost) if his right fist was the same way, it is realistic. Fix that and your set. You could possibly fix this by keeping the outline and adding more of the third shading, but the best way to go is to start the fist over.

Okay, I followed you guys said and fixed the shading on the hair, I kept some contrast on a tuft becasue it looks pretty flat without it.
and starting on the new hand, how does that look because i might change it.
made a few minor changes, added some dithering, hopefully not too much.

I fixed it... sorta. It's still not the best and you should (and better) update it and edit it largely. I just gave you an idea and a base to work with. You kept on doing things like this:

Exhibit A: Circles Red and Orange show where you left white marks. Why?

The yellow shows the pinkie, or what is that? Look at your fist, does your pinkie wrap around under your ring finger and partially your middle finger? I would hope not...

Green notices the thumb. It seems almost completely bony aka jacked up.

The blue recognizes the whole top part of his fist as empty, as in it's wrong. Your fingers aren't little stubs, that is one of the main problems of your original.

There are stray marks across the canvas, and the shading on the fist was messed up too. I don't think my shading is the best for it either, but try harder! This looked almost perfect before and I'm sure you are about to nail it.

* Open in paint to see it better.

Another thing I've notice that the tuft of hair isn't really agreeing with the light source.

That might be me though.

Actually I just noticed that when you posted this. You are right. I think the best way to solve this is to move the light source to the opposite side of the pic. Then adjust the shading to that light source. Most of the shading should be fine with the light source there but you will have to tweak it.

@Kat I was trying to do a perspective trick on the forearm, guess i failed though.
Brandman, no worries fixed the shading on the hair so it will fit the light source
how's it now?
