Excuse me, but
This is a place to show your own work. If even you think it's pointless, why would we care?
When making a post, be humble, right. But don't also go 'I suck at this' or 'this is pointless' :I

Alright.

see how much more readable they are with more contrast?
While it's more readable, you made the color's too bright (If he was going still for the g/s look) as they otherwise would stick out pallete (thanks mod) wise.

and illustrating your words with an edit can be quite helpful too.
you're also being very judgmental without necessarily backing up what you're saying, ie:
Quote:Well the body poses are messed up, which therefore causes the completed ones to look very strange, and I'm almost sure you wanted those body poses like that so I left it alone.
Thank you, and I probably should post way more edit's than I do (I've might of done it what, maybe two times?). Thank you and Fuchikoma for helping me give better crits.

erm, I don't really get this. that pose seems pretty normal to me :/
Sorry I didn't mean the pose I meant the body shape and proportions.

I think that was mostly a title joke to pull forum members to read this. Though either way what your saying is true.

Whoa, dudes, thank you very much for all of your comments. Thanks Chris2Balls, you gave me a nice notion of which way to go regarding the Colossus, I guess I'l focus on that as soon as I find time. Also, I really liked the effect of adding extra contrast to the pallete, I hadn't really realized the difference it makes, I'll be sure to take care with that issue from now on. Thanks for all the help so far!
Also, regarding the thread title, sorry, it wasn't really serious, I just meant I'm posting few sprites with nothing special about them, and that are not part of anything bigger or made with any set purpouse other that killing time. That's what makes them pointles. But I get what you mean, nonetheless. I'm being more careful not to diminish my own work for now on.
Thanks for everything, dudes. I'm sorry for not being able to show any progress right now, it's just that my time's been short lately. But things will be better for me next week, and I'll be able to prove how useful all this feedback is being to me.

alright, this is my first attempt to upgrade the Colossus, I've done it fairly quickly, 'cause I don't really have much time right now, but I wanna know if I'm on the right track:
Adtionally, this is another sprite I did some time ago:
Also, I wanted some hits an techniques, if possible, about how to sprite oldschool (8 bits/ 16 bits) game start screens, if anyone could help, it'd be real nice. Thanks again.

There's a little bit of pillowshading on the eyes, but I do believe you're on the right track!
And the head looks good, but you might want to smoothen out the outline.

I'm not really sure about how not to pillow-shade while shading such round-shaped objects such as the Colossus' eyes. anyway, I'll keep trying, my final tests are soon to be over and in little to no time I'll be able to sprite as much as I possibly can, so I hope I have even more feedback during the next days, so I have more and more stuff to work on.

this is sloppy and made in a few seconds, but it should convey the general idea behind spherical objects.
The eyes should have the same lightsource as everything else. Pillowshading implies the lightscource is directly in front of the object, and looks flat in any case.
I like that head! I would shade the hair a little more though.
side note: keep up that motivation and positive attitude toward criticism.

It's pretty obvious that you care about the fact that this artwork is "pointless". He is the artist after all and it's important to consider what he thinks of his work - he appears to look down upon his work and sees that it's not as good as it could be and he's asking for help. The fact that he thinks his sprites are pointless doesn't necessarily mean he doesn't value his work or that he thinks he "sucks at this". They could have simply been done to kill time or "unintentionally".

Alright, I tried the to approach the eye shading kinda like X Gamer 66 suggested, not sure if it seems okay, but here it goes:
Thanks again, people, I really appreciate all the interest you guys are taking in my work, it's been real helpful, hopefully I'm starting to get it. =]

while you're mostly right, I've been noticing a influx of new members making their first topic as 'this sucks' or 'it's pointless'.
Seeing that this is a critique forum, entering here, showing your work and then immediately saying "here goes nothing" is kinda saddening. Sure, you can be unsatisfied by your own work and need help on them, but at least showcase them in a 'This is bad, but I can't seem to get it right. Could you guys help me please?' way.
Finishing this up, I agree with the last part of your post since a lot of people make sprites without really thinking on how to use them (hi me)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, all I meant is, while compared to anything any of you Spriters-Resource vets do, my sprites are not really any good. But I wouldn't even have thought of registering and posting here unless I felt like there's any hope for me to improve. So, even if I expressed myself badly in the first post, it's not really like I meant to diminish my own work, I just recognize I have a long road ahead before my sprites meet the level of the ones you people make. That's pretty much why this topic exists, 'cause I wanna get better and better with the help of the best.
Once again, sorry if the topic title made it look like I'm looking down on my work, I do realize it's a bad approach for exposing my sprites, and I'll not make this mistake again.
it's no problem, newGuy c:
