I haven't played Squeak Squad or Crystal Shards, but I feel like the best Kirby game is Superstar Ultra.

I cannot thank the above post enough.

It's Kirby Super Star, but even better.

Crystal Shards was good, but I hate collection metagames. Also, while ability-mixing was great, I think it could have been handled a bit better; there were too many abilities that were nearly useless, as well as possibly too many abilities that were just TOO useful.

Squeak Squad was abysmal for a Kirby game. It had a few useless abilities, and handled ability-mixing pretty badly. The only good things to come out of SqSq were the revival of Ninja ability and the Squeak Squad's battle theme.

And both of them lacked Wheelie Bikes.

By the by, my first Kirby game was Pinball Land.

The only Kirby game that hasn't sucked lately is epic yarn.

Peace.

Edit: Anyways, Kirby Superstar is the best one (no doubt). I liked the fact that the abilities have more than just on damn move.
~~LOVE~~ 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

I didn't think Squeak Squad was that terrible. I mean it wasn't good but it wasn't horrible either.

I have to say, I really wish they'd do another Kirby game where you can combine abilities like Crystal Shards did. I understand why they don't since it'd be a LOT of abilities to make combinations for a this point, but hey there's like 500 something Pokemon to animate and it gets done just fine in those games so I'm sure it could work.

Besides, UFO alone + anything else would probably kick ridiculous amounts of ass.

The double-lightsaber thing in Crystal Shards will always be the best ability

Kirby can't suck in Epic Yarn.

That's the joke.

New Combinations would be cool. Like Spark + Hammer would give Kirby a viking hat and make him like Thor. Beam + Cutter would give Kirby those laser discs from Tron.

Cutter + Sword = Blade Top
Hammer + Cutter = Axe
Hammer + Needle = Mace

Why the possibilities are endless.

I think they would have to limit the regular abilities of course. That means getting rid of UFO and stuff. But hey you could have Beam + Tornado = UFO Kirby.

these three would end being the same exact power. the reason people enjoys super star so much is because they had fewer powers but each one had several uses, giving the player a lot of options to play and deal with enemies.

the only reason you needed so many abilities in cristal shards was due those obnoxious cristal that could be only obtained with specific combinations. other than that, you'd stick to only the drill, the swords or the missiles.

other than that, the game suffered the same problem that mvc2 had. it gave you 52 characters from where you(and most people) used only the same pool of 7-10 characters at most.

Woah woah woah, don't make it sound as if Gamefreak has a hard time animating 500 sprites when they have a pretty good budget and good (plentiful) staff.

I'm sure the great people at HAL Lab's have just as much if not more. No cop-outs please.

... that's exactly why I said it would hardly be an issue. Still, say you have 24 base abilities than you'd get like 576 combination abilities. It would hardly be impossible to do, but it'd be a bit harder than just making some sprites if they didn't want to half ass them since everything would have to be programmed in as well as like at least somewhat unique..
