Final sprite, hopefully.
WIP. Want to get the outline ready before taking care of the shading. Something about it seems a bit off.. Anyone mind telling me?

... This sprite needs major help. First of all, keep in mind it's GBC style, so the colour pallette is limited to two colours with black and white added. Second.. uhr.. she looks weird, and I'm having trouble figuring out why. She's supposed to be tomboyish (the clothes) and a bit demonic (the face). This is a foward-facing battling sprite as well. I'd really appreciate any and all c+c on it!

notice hpw the torso is almost twice as long as the legs.
not to mention, there's not a single femenine trait on the character. even the most tomboy-ish character would have a waist, hips, breast(if any) and a more femenine pose. also i'm not sure, but i believe GBC follows the same technical limitations as the NES(this is, sprites are made of chunks of 8x16/8x8px tiles with a max of 3 colors+transparency). does this one follows those restrictions? Thanked by: BynineB
Made the upper body less... lengthy, added some female proportions (I think? I'm not very good at drawing hips.) The sprite is correct for the GBC style limitations. I think the GBC style is limiting your editting on the sprite, so my advice would be to sprite the same character without those limitations and then go back and devamp it into GBC. This way you won't have to pay attention to those things while you're sorting the anatomy out. Thanked by: BynineB
When Fuchi said the torso is almost twice as long as the legs, he was probably referring to her arms, those suckers are LONG.
Imagine her animated, and she were to put her arms down into an idle state, they'd probably be down next to the knees, you gotta shorten em up a bit, also, the shoulders seem a little bit too broad. The shading in the previous sprite (around the shorts and waist) looked a little better as well. Try and take care of these things first.

This is slowly getting better, I think. For comparison: vs.

A little edit:
- head & arms smaller (1 pixel in width) - changed eyes & mouth The hair still bugs me, but I can't put my finger on it. Thanked by: BynineB

....I'll be honest, I can't really agree with that edit.. You made her look rather dopey looking. She's supposed to be a bit demonic (ala the first post about the sprite I made.) I think the smaller arms do look better though.
Just so we're not going in circles, another sprite. It's also GBC styled, I guess. Thanked by: Chris2Balls [:B]

your outlines, the clothes and their shading all contribute to restricting your sprite's potential.
they could all convey form and volume better. look at the hair- is it really under the effect of gravity? how would the hair be shaped if it stemmed from her scalp, etc. here's an edit: take in count i don't know what effect you want for the clothes/pose.

After I looked at her a second time you're right, the eyes are not really "demonic". (02-13-2011, 12:12 PM)BynineB Wrote: I think the smaller arms do look better though. Yep, her arms were not "girlish" enough. (02-13-2011, 12:12 PM)BynineB Wrote: This one looks fine, nothing to crit. |
