Zelda: OOT Comparison
(06-21-2011, 10:30 AM)ZaeTelapo! Wrote: Too bad many companies do the same thing to their remakes and such.

Most just REVAMP visuals and audio and go with that. Some don't even do that and call it a remake(many gba games).

So really the fact that nintendo went ahead and revamped the visuals and apparently some audio along with a new game plus which made the game more interesting, is a pretty nice plus all together. Sure it's not the best thing ever, but bad and effortless is out of the question.

Not to mention this is literally what many fans throughout the zelda series WANTED, that or mm remake, so all in all it delivers.

Most of the remakes ive seen have actually managed to make the graphics and sound up to date or atleast a whole lot better than what im seeing here

Im sure the gameplay is fine so not bad, but effortless indeed. People asked for a portable MM or OoT but im willing to bet making little to no graphical updates were not at the tippy top of thier lists

I don't wanna get wrapped up in this...whatever this is, but I just would like to say I agree with Ty and what Nintendo did with the game wasn't lazy. It is possible they could have done more (I don't own it yet so I don't know all they did) but I know there was probably some reason they didn't. I'm pretty sure their intention was simply to bring back the game onto the newest handheld, but they thought it'd be nice to enhance it a little. They probably didn't want to go overboard with it (you know how some people complain that something is "too far from the perfect original").

Besides... I think anyone who really knows the true value of gaming knows that it's not the graphics that make a great game (look at that monstrosity Bomberman Act Zero, a great example of this), they just add to it. Obviously Nintendo can't make something that everyone's happy with, but they tried. Nintendo always tries. There was effort. Just MHO, everyone thinks differently.

While the graphical update is mostly a texture update, the new textures look way better than the original game's. You also seem to be forgetting that they completely redid the inventory system, which actually significantly improves the gameplay, completely remade the interiors of all of the buildings and clock town, added a boss rush mode, and included Master Quest. This game is easily worth the $40 for most people.

Well Jetters this here is a discussion of the OoT remake, and graphics don't make the game but they're an important part and shouldn't be recycled and charge like 4 times as much at the same time.

the reason they didn't do more is too save money like Tyvon said

yes pk GCN graphics are better than N64 graphics thats why they're better, maybe to the hardcore zelda fans it's a big deal to have all this bonus stuff but to most people it's just the same thing.

MQ is a good bonus as is boss rush, but what is different about inventory

Will people please stop calling this a remake? As far as I know, not even Nintendo is calling this a Remake. It's a straight-up port.

Whether people care about this or not is entirely down to how much they like Ocarina of Time. That is all.
Specs 'n' Headphones has been revamped! Check it, yo.

So graphical and auido upgrades aren't what make it a remake just engine changes?
not saying people will dislike this game just saying graphics are not good

Mind if I ask how it is a straight-up port if there has been slight improvements to the game's audio and visual quality and some improvements to the game's engine? I'm not saying that this is a remake or anything but if it was a straight up port then I think the virtual console version would be much more suited for that position than this one.

You answered your own question. Using better textures and shaders does not automatically make old code new again. As far as I understand, the actual engine is unchanged. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that people have manged to recreate glitches from the original versions in this. Though I admit I don't know how much code-manipulation they'd have to do for Super Guide and Accelerometer additions.

I got the game, and here are some things I've noted:

- The game is significantly more pleasant to look at with the 3D and updated textures. Much better than it was in 1998.
- The controls are better on the 3DS
- Overall, definitely worth the 40 bucks

Can't wait for my free OST~

Also, Shadow Temple, Bottom of the Well, and House of Skulltula are all creepier than the original.

For those of you worried they would somehow lose their impact.

Still, it's hard to say that it's a port when things like the inventory have been revamped specifically for the 3DS control scheme, or the super guide, or throwing in a boss rush mode and the master quest (which also had some changes to make things much, much harder).

Similar things were done with SM64DS and Diddy Kong Racing DS, there weren't that many changes to those games in specific but nether the less they had some purpose. It could be very well a lazy remake. But a straight forward port, again, is something like virtual console.

Dear Pugnificent

I'm not sure if you are aware of this. But when they originally showed screen shots of OOT3D it was intended to be a tech demo. To show what they could do.
At that point they had only revamped a few sections, but the fans stepped in and begged for it to be released.

But why?! Why oh why did Nintendo give the fans what they asked for? Why did they give them the portable Ocarina of Time they've been asking for since before even the DS's release? Then update the graphics and give it 3D visuals? What horrible people the Zelda the devs must be. What money craving fiends they are!

Ocarina of time portable would have sold like hot shit even if it was a straight up port with no changes at all.

Another thing, kids today aren't going to go to the Wii Virtual Console, and download a 13 year old game with severely dated visuals.
They are much more likely however, to buy or be gifted a game with nice graphics, 3D, and an advertising campaign.

And i for one welcome kids getting into video games that aren't dominated by brown, bloom, bald space marines with no originality at all.

Nobody is going to buy this game if they don't want it. Unless it's gifted to them, but that happens with every game.
So, if the only people playing this game are people that want it and are happy with it, then what may i ask, is the problem?

You really need to drop that STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE attitude. Because while you're sat here complaining about a game, we're all going to be off playing and enjoying it.

Sincerely Woppet.
this is a sig

oh god shut up

OoT was originally delayed for like forever maybe Nintendo should have done that again

also it look goods compared to the 1998 game because ITS 2011

"stop liking what I don't like" are you fucking kidding, more like "pugnificent stop disagreeing with me and like what everyone else likes Nintendo is god dsfsdffsdfs"

yes people buy games they want good job

im out good lord

its ok. i dislike how this port has been relased to the public and how its purely hype whatsoever.

however, look on the bright side: just like in the n64, majora will vastly upgrade everything this port has to offer. from the content to the replay value, to even the gameplay and plot.
