Also, get the protests over with? That's not quite how it works. The protests against SOPA will end when SOPA and its kin are dead in the water. In the meantime, you might not be able to read Wikipedia for a day. I'd take that over having the entire internet censored, because one is a mild inconvenience and one just straight-up changes the internet.
Don't worry, after tonight I'm gone, whatever I accidentally got across from one message, I apologize for, because I never mean to step on other peoples opinions. Like I said though, the stuff with Bastard was completely different. Goodbye and sorry for any trouble if there is any

You don't want your opinion judged? Don't mention it. Deal with it.
Wasn't shoving anything. I just said that I was irritated, and I started getting shit for it. If I wouldn't have been come at I wouldn't go after anyone else. I'm not here to start shit just for the fact of starting it
And if the porn isn't a convincing argument, don't expect the manga one to hold any weight at all. Sure, they stop the magazine, not the actual graphic novels. I'm done with this Dylan. If you want to hold some sort of childish grudge against me, go ahead.
EDIT: And all that Suicide Girls collection, and the Hentai collection. Oh yea. Try to pass it off there big boy, I realize more than you think
hey, take a chill pill everyone, you in particular. Let's try to have a decent discussion for once.
also don't go personal when discussing public concern, thanks

You know, that is a REAL threat to the existence of tSR, and even if they can't shut the site down they can withhold ad revenues which basically amounts to the same thing. The site has always enjoyed a level of relative acceptance from the game studios, mainly because we can claim fair use in the worst case scenario. With SOPA/PIPA? Any studio can apply to have the site taken offline even if they don't have any content on the site, all they have to do is prove there's SOME infringing going on. This is kinda importance since the studios might take the same position as before but the ESA is kinda a douchey organization that could very well abuse these new powers.
Really anywhere with a forum would be subject to this bill, if the site owner can't control the content in order to ensure there's no piracy then the whole site could be taken down for one innocent link, one video.
The way websites deal with copyright infringement now works absolutely fine. A lawyer representing a movie/game/music company sends a Cease and Desist letter to the server administrator/site owner, the letter points out which files are infringing and also provides the links to the files, there's then a little blurb about each file's owner and then they tell you that you have 14 days to remove it or face further legal action.
At least with the current method the person suing needs PROOF that there's actual infringing going on, and to prove that they are acting on the right of the content owner; rather than just some nutjob suing for no reason.

I don't wanna lose the internet! It's like... family to me! No internet means no taxes, no money, no porn, no video-uploading, no ordering, and no ANYTHING!!! If it doesn't pass, please bring Megaupload from the grave!
Sprite ripper, Rainmeter maker, and Game Boy palette creator! At your service, VG-Resource!
This is somewhat unrelated to the whole SOPA thing (though not IP law altogether)... but how exactly can tSR claim Fair Use?

So apparently it's been just announced today that SOPA and PIPA have been postponed today

I don't know if this makes you happy but fuck someone tell congress to burn the bills already, postponing it isn't enough.

Well, fair use is a fairly ambiguous law, and it's written to be that way. There's really a couple of pieces of criteria for defining what could be considered fair use;
1. The purpose of hosting the images: In this case the Spriters Resource are trying to create an index of all of the sprite sheets available and archive them. The images are not considered for commercial use as we've mentioned to people who want to use ripped sprites in games they plan to receive a financial return from
2. The amount of the original "source" has been copied over: This one is hard in terms of software but copying over the image resources, which visually a big part of a video game is relatively small in comparison to the whole finished product.
3. Affect on the work's value: What we're doing here isn't intended to be in any way, shape or form, detrimental to the original works, indeed you'll find that tSR generally stimulates discussions about the works from which the sheets were derived.
We've never been challenged on it, of course and it's generally put down to how you interpret the law. There was a ruling in 2009 though (IIRC) that basically stated that a copyright holder may not demand the removal of an image without first establishing if it falls under the fair use limitation.
I'm not a lawyer and this certainly isn't something that you should quote me on, but since we've never had a problem, and the fact remains that the site is here as a labour of love rather than a money making machine we feel like if we were ever charged with infringing (Though if we received a DMCA takedown we'd comply before it ever got to litigation) on a content holders copyright we'd have a solid defence.
I hope that clears it up for you a little!

They postponed it because they know the affect the recent protests will have on the bill. And they think that by the time the bill comes around again, the general population will have forgotten about it. It is risky for sites like wikipedia to blackout again ever time the bill rolls around, meaning the protest will lost steam.
Last time I checked the US was supposed to be a democracy not a dictatorship, but when the majority of the population is against a bill like this and they still consider listening to a small group of rich suits in hollywood over their own people the lines start the become blurred.
