.UNI files?
#1
Question
I've been trying to rip game resources from Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom, a game for the PSP - the sprites specifically. Seems like the resources are stored in .UNI files (the name of the folder these files are in is called "UNION", if that helps).

I don't know what these are exactly. I'm assuming they're similar to .BIN and .DAT files in the way they store data but I can't really know for sure. If anyone has any idea of what these are and how to unravel them, I'd really appreciate the help. Big Grin

Moved to QIT. I've also been trying to get files (models, sounds and 2D graphics) from a PSP game. Mega Man Maverick Hunter X specifically. They are stored in .BINs so, you know where that idea went lol... I hope you get help for this.

Woops. Sorry for posting in the wrong section. Very new here obviously.

Haha yeah. It's most frustrating when you already know where the files are stored but you can't access them. So near, yet so far... Thanks for the well-wishes! Hopefully someone can shed a bit of light on this but I'll keep trying in the meantime. Best of luck to your ripping ventures as well. Big Grin

I doubt you're still looking at this, but I wanted to say that I looked into .UNI files (I wanted to rip Hakuouki's sprites, backgrounds, etc. as well) a while back and the only tool I found that claimed to be able to extract from .UNI files came from asmodean. I myself wasn't able to get the tool to work, it just kept giving me errors (I believe it was something like "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way"). In the end I gave up.

The tool was designed to work with another game from the same manufacturer as Hakuouki, so in theory it should work. I guess...?

That's... about all the help I can offer, unfortunately. I'd be really interested in these rips if anyone can get into that file though. o/

Oh, I'm still looking! It's just that I... haven't really made any real progress. Embarassed Thanks for the nudge!

I looked into Asmodean and unfortunately turned up the same result as yours. Buuut I have been snooping around and I've seen someone say that they've ripped the CGs from the PS2 version. Unfortunately, the files on the PS2 version use the same file format, but the good news is (if said person is to be believed) that it's entirely possible to rip them. It's just a matter of figuring out how.

So, yeah. That's about all the little progress I've made since last I posted. You guys will be the first to know of any breakthroughs. Cute

Huh, intriguing, I've heard of .uni files for audio but never heard of it as a graphics archive.

Only reference I can find to it would be GDD (http://www.microchip.com/gdd) (annoyingly there's no list of file extensions on the page), which is software for making embedded graphics and interfaces for hardware, sounds a little strange but the fact it's obviously for graphics is leaning in the right direction, so it might be worth having a look at that.
