Faeldspr's Top-Down Sprites
That's a big palette there for that tiny dragon

Are you suggesting hue shifting?

The palette is the TFR palette. It doesn't mean all of it is in use.

Well, I rejigged the palette. It looks way too lighthearted and cheery; not the effect I was going for. I know tFR has a cheery style, but I preferred it when it looked darker and slightly more serious.

Thought I'd post an update before I eat. I decided I'd make him more of a lindworm (bipedal, snaky dragon) than a traditional dragon.

The leg's shading is a bit off at the moment but what else?

I've recently done some more work on my prehistoric creatures. I'll be working my way through the Mesozoic Era, starting with the Triassic.
I edited the raptor, particularly with the leg. I think I might keep this version as a juvenile, and make an adult sprite later.

Here's Lystrosaurus, a type of mammal-like reptile about the size of a small pig.

I don't think I've done a great job with it but I'd be interested to see what you guys make of it.
Proterosuchus was an early ancestor to crocodiles and was 2-3m in length.

Again, I don't feel that confident with it, but thought I'd post it anyway.
Crits appreciated.

The quadrupeds really should have more than two legs. Also, some more shading might be nice as they look rather flat. I guess you are no longer going for a top-down-ish style? The new ones could use a tad stronger contrast and the last one looks nothing like its reference (colous patterns and spikes).

I'll add more legs in. Where does the shading need to go in particular? That was one bit I struggled with. I was still trying to keep a top-down style, but obviously I've done something wrong there. Thanks for the crit!

Basically you need more shadow on the bottoms of parts.
You have depicted them in full profile views.

Right so I thought I'd return to spriting after a bit of a hiatus.
I've tried to do a side-view for the Space Marine however I couldn't quite get him to look 'bulky' enough. I think it may be that he looks too upright and the head's too small, but I'm not sure.

Thoughts?

Yea, you're not matching the proportions of the front sprite at all. The head is too small, the shoulders too far down, legsbent wrongly and you didn't give him any of his parts - he should have seperate parts at his hip, the upper arms are seperate from the lower arms and shoulders, all that. You shouldn't have put link next to it, but the front sprite.

I'll come back to the marine in a bit. Meanwhile, I decided to do something essential; the grass tile:

it looks reeeeally random and youre using many similar colors. maybe you should be making more like in final fantasy where they use only short streight thin lines and not thick ones that bend and leave a lot of same color area?
Thanked by:
Ok, it's only 16px and I haven't checked whether it tiles properly, but do you mean more like this?

Thanked by:
I'd say you need more contrast between those colours. They blend together a lot.
