Pc gaming IS the master race anyway. I find it dump when companies don't release games for it.

I love how the master race puts dump instead of dumb...
Being that a lot of things are built on the PC, then put on consoles (aka DMC 4) and porting to PC seems pretty easy I don't know why everything just isn't on Steam. No one needs physical PC releases with stupid DRM and shops don't like PC games because they sit for a long time. So yeah, everything should be on Steam and then everybody wins. Also... is Rayman Legends a Wii U exclusive? Heard nothing about it for other platforms yet...

I hope that's right (or that it's just not an exclusive in any way at all) as I sure would love me some PS3 Rayman. Would still be nice for Ubisoft to announce something official...
Any news on this "exclusive" DLC for Tomb Raider on the 360 by the way? Console exclusive crap annoys the crap out of me by the way...

Because PC gaming isn't necessarily mainstream compared to consoles.

Not really sure how relevant this thread is for discussion anymore seeing as E3 has passed but...
Any sort of interest I might have had at all for the new Tomb Raider was absolutely obliterated after reading this. Fucking seriously? Players will be thinking they need to "protect" Lara? "She is literally turned into a cornered animal"? And they're using rape as a means of character development? What the hell, guys. Way to be super creepy and super sexist. "welp the only way to make her a believable character is to make her boobs smaller and have people beat the crap out of her, yep" Sigh.

You just took those quotes really out of context.
She's not the hardened Dare devil yet, she's just a regular person thrown into a really bad situation. And since it's a reboot, it makes sense that she's not the crazy ass kicking person she was in the past games, I'm still going to look forward to this reboot, as it's going to be really cool to play as someone who isn't the best asskicker ever, but a real person whose thrown into a scary, dark, and trying experience.

You don't treat adults like little girls just because they haven't gone through oh-so-terrible-things yet. This is just disrespectful. And rape? Really? Talk about forced. There's plenty of other ways to show her growth. It just feels like a stupid cop-out. I can't even type all my feelings about this right now, screw this entire thing Thanked by: SKELTON S. Here's how I feel about it. If I were Laura Croft, I would be scared shitless and would probably feel completely helpless. It seems like they're trying to install that into a videogame character, and that's what I find particularly refreshing, you're not a god, you're not the batman, you're not a master of every fighting style known to man, you're someone on an island, and feel completely helpless, but you at least have the fortitude to carry on. That's how I see it.

You're not supposed to relate to her though, you're supposed to ~protect the womens~

That's how you relate, you think if that were me, I'd hope someone were protecting me, at least that's how I see that.

Um...
no... that's really not it at all dude. They "don't really project themselves into the character" because she's a woman, which supposedly makes males want to protect her. That's seriously what they said. Like she needs a male player to hold her hand along the way. If it was a male character, they would never say this kind of thing. You can't project your own little spin on this, they're just legitimately sexist scumbags.

here's the thing though: you can have a strong, vulnerable (even female!) protagonist.
the trick is don't write a "female protagonist" write a "protagonist who happens to be female" and include actual character flaws and inadequacies. even using something as fucking awful on every level as "post rape is the only way a woman can find empowerment" is horribly fucking damaging and the developer should feel absolutely, utterly on every single level a s h a m e d.
