b-but touch & go was literally awful. it was NOT a "yoshi game" in the traditional sense - it was a tech demo that they knew they could make Some Loser Idiot (me) pay full price for an incredibly mediocre game that could have just as easily sold (and probably better) as a DSi eShop title (or hell, even an iPhone game).

I liked Yoshi's Island DS, it was the perfect sequel to Yoshi's Island. Too bad the music sucked.

Every time I saw trailer footage for this new 3DS Yoshi game I could only think, "Why does Yoshi feel so slow?" That alone killed any interest I had for it.

Good point. He does look a bit slow actually. I'm going to do this: Get the original on SNES, then the sequel, wait for Yoshi's Story on VC, get Yoshi's Island DS and Yoshi Touch an' Go, then get Yoshi's New Island. The way it was meant to be.

The way it was meant to be?

If that means you're trying to do it all in chronological order, Yoshi's Story and Touch 'n' Go both come before Yoshi's Island DS.
And if you're really counting Touch 'n' Go, there's a slew of other Yoshi spin-off games in there as well.
Counting all the Yoshi games:

Yoshi (NES/GB) - Yoshi's Cookie (NES/SNES/GB) - Yoshi's Safari (SNES) - Yoshi's Island (SNES) - Tetris Attack (SNES) - Yoshi's Story (N64) - Yoshi Topsy-Turvy (GBA) - Yoshi's Island DS (DS) - Yoshi's New Island (3DS) - Yarn Yoshi (Wii U)

I left out anything where Yoshi is not the main character and ports.

If you want a vaguely canonical order:

Yoshi's Island/Yoshi Touch 'n' Go - Tetris Attack - Yoshi's Island DS - Yoshi's New Island - Yoshi's Story - Yoshi Topsy-Turvy/Yoshi/Yoshi's Cookie - Yarn Yoshi

No I meant the way they were released. I know Yoshi's Island is first chronologically. And I don't feel the need to play those other spin-offs.

So, yesterday I increased the size of my SNES collection to include two games that I desperately needed and it makes no sense as to why I didn't already have them:
Donkey Kong Country
Robotrek

I got the cart only of both games, but Robotrek for only $20! I went into a used videogame store that I had never been to before, only to find that the owner and manager of it was an old friend from college. So, she whacked the price of Robotrek to me as a gift.
Meh, I didn't ever care about signatures anyway.

Many series that have a crown jewel in the franchise have the same problem. If there's an acclaimed game in a series, all later sequels will always be compared to the crown jewel. Later games tend to be bashed for not being like how the crown jewel game was and then if another game comes out that is like the crown jewel in the franchise, it still gets bashed for "rehashing". Funny is how it's almost always Nintendo's games that get called on this and rarely anyone else.

Though it's always nice when there are new games that somehow blow out the previous crown jewels of the franchises. My favorite Mario game up until recently was Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario 3D World just recently de-throned SMB 3 (in my opinion). Currently my top 3 Marios are 1) 3D World, 2) SMB 3, and 3) NSMB U.

So you really like SM3DW better than SMB3? I love SMB3, and I think it could quite possibly be the best game ever. But I have loved what I've seen from SM3DW so far, I can't wait to get it! The music is amazing, the level design looks great, and the multiplayer features look good too. And 3D Mario in HD...

Considering that the "Bowser takes Peach" plot has been getting stale and the multitude of NSMB titles are turning some gamers away (also, let's not forget Paper Mario's transformation into a generic Mario game), Super Mario 3D World is a godsend to show that the Mario games still have a significant creative factor that made us all want to play his games in the first place. Not only is it the first title in the main series that lets us play as Peach since Super Mario 2 USA (even though the somewhat underwhelming Super Princess Peach takes that spot), it gives us fresher and more unique mechanics that not even New Super Mario Bros. U can dish up. Plus, it even redeems the problems that Super Mario 3D Land had to begin with!

Well, that is them most…. Errrr… Interesting game that is going to be exported to America from Nintendo. My biggest gripe is how everyone sounds like Microsoft Sam (AKA the synthetic voice used for Drew Pickles and Sammy the Snake).

Anyway, if Nintendo is going to export a Japanese series for North American audiences to enjoy, why not start out with developing a sequel to Tomato Adventure or something like that?
