tSR Giant Pixel - Mario
Neat.

So now that it's finally done, would you guys be willing to do another?
Obviously with some stricter/clearer rules so it comes out looking better.

I was thinking that for the next one we'd have a unified palette so that it would come out looking a lot nicer almost as though every space was supposed to go together, even if they don't actually blend into each other.

And of course we'll need better organization regarding picking and distributing spots and deadlines.
Any suggestions?

i'm all for a unified palette.

as for organizing reserved spots; i think the best way would be to catalog every reserved spot in the OP. whoever happens to be online could jot down usernames and their spots in list form in the OP whenever a new post is made.

also, i've got a ton of ideas for the next Giant Pixel's sprite...

I have an idea for the next one if you guys are up for another but after that I'd be happy to take suggestions for future ones Smile

A unified palette would be nice, I guess, as long as it is a good one Wink
Or at best different palettes for the different base colours probably.

As for organisation I'd say I'd keep a dropbox image with taken spots again as well as a list of reservations with tiles, name and date (probably even with the due-date explicitly stated). Reservations should void after one or two weeks maximally - If you don't have time to work on pixels, don't reserve but wait until you do have time. Reserving spots but not working on them so others who would work can't have them isn't the best, really. Just wait until you do have time and then pick some spots and if it's on the next big pixel. I'd be up for keeping track and sending out PM reminders shortly before it's due so if you've worked on pixels but haven't finished them completely you could still beg for more time Wink

Also agreeing with Crappy that whoever mods stops by and has the time could add recent reservations to the first post (as long as they're valid) so there's be the picture and list of taken spots and a list of recent reservations that aren't marked on the picture yet so whoever wants to reserve spots could just check the first post and most recent ones at the end of the topic.

WE ACTUALLY FINISHED SOMETHING! I-IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL... ;~;

Anyway uhh... I'm not sure about one a single "color" for the whole thing. We'll (and by we I mean uncreative people like me) run out of ideas of what to make when everyone's entries are the same color because of ideas possibly getting taken and whatnot.

Er... that isn't to say I'll be competing but I'm just trying to think of other people who have the same problems as me... that's all...

Also, my suggestion. Elec Man? Cute

Yeah, by "unified palette" I meant one color ramp for each base color, potentially with colors that blend well with the other color ramps so people can make bigger pixel art within the sprite if they want. That way we don't end up with mario's skin color being 80 different variations of orange, for example.

Other things to consider:

Bigger pixel size, perhaps 32x32 instead of 24x24? What do you think?
Time limit on claimed pixels before they go back into the pool?

Aah I see. Personally I feel like bigger pixels would just make them harder to do considering you have to make four. But that's your decision I suppose.
Also, I agree, maybe one week then the claims expire?

We don't have to do bigger pixels if you guys don't want to. This is a community thing so I'd like community input on what you want to do. I'm just offering suggestions :p

A week sounds fine to me, but considering that a lot of us are in school now that might be too short. I think two would probably be better.

I think 36x36 is a good size. As for the actual sprite's size, I don't think we should go any bigger than this, considering the trouble of finishing.
I would love to do another one; this was super fun and the final product looks really cool.
As for the unified palette, I think that if there is a palette, it should be low contrast, but have a variety of shades/hues, so it doesn't look 100% the same.
I think the problem was, rather than there being colors too different, high contrast. Not everyone had a problem with this, but Mario only really lost definition with higher contrast pixels, ironically. We don't want to make it too uniform with only certain colors, have like 10-15 colors for each color ramp.

We'll never get that done. You know how the TSR community is, we'll probably get part of her hand done and then quit.
