Nintendo Direct / 3DS XL

Me, I have a 3DS. My brother might get a 3DS XL, so we can share our AC adapter.
I'm content with my 3DS and do not see the need for a bigger screen.

... This, unless Nintendo are dicks and discontinue the original 3DS. I don't think they will but you never know...

You can still buy a separate adapter if you need one. It's not the end of the world. It's just that due to the costs of the 3DS XL, they left out the adapter, sold separately, to keep it affordable.

Yeah they should do that with everything because that wouldn't be a huge inconvenience at all.
It's actually more annoying than the PS3 not coming with a HDMI cable.

Which brings me to my earlier point: You can still get a regular 3DS.
Already have a compatible adapter? You can save a couple of bucks not having to buy one separately. It's better than to have a more expensive bundle which includes an adapter you probably already have.

note: no one is forced to buy the 3DSXL, the 3DSXL is aimed to a different niche of the gamers, the 3DSXL is not making the original 3DS obsolete.

if you don't like it you can just go for the original 3DS.

Including the adapter would effect the price by such a small amount I really don't see it as a convincing argument.

Not only will the damn thing probably not be in stores (much like the Wii's component cable), it also means sites like Amazon will be flooded with crappy ones, showing photos of the actual one, and then sending you a turd as you struggle through the listings to find THE actual adapter.
And if stores were going to sell 3DS adapters they're more likely to sell there own cheaper brand.

But okay, we're "informed gamers" we'll be ok but...

I seriously doubt there's going to be a big read sticker saying "You must buy the adapter separately" on the box. So parents who buy it for a kid's birthday are going to be pretty miffed when they can't use the damn thing because they expected a way of powering the thing up to be included in the box because it's the norm to include the thing that powers something in the box. Yes stores can say "Excuse me sir, but are you aware this product doesn't come with a power-supply?" but I can't see Amazon or any online retailer drawing much attention to the fact.

The PS3 slim uses the same power cable as the PS3. A lot of things use that same cable. I probably have a spare cable somewhere around the house. I still expect my products to come with everything I need to enjoy them (aka turn them on).

If you already have a 3DS, it's trade-in value has now been hurt because you need the adapter. Nintendo is just being a dick by not including it and that's all there is to it. It's a lot of inconvenience for the sake of them spending $6 to include the damn thing.

Because nintendo is assuming that everyone who already owns a 3DS will trade their own in for the 3DSXL.

Of course, bearing in mind that means selling the AC adapter as well.

It's a dumb move on nintendo of japan's and nintendo of europe's part. I wouldn't be surprised if the sales fare worse than the regular 3DS' launch because of this.

EDIT: oh looks like that we already went over that.

Chalk it up to being slow this morning.

I like how you work at the manufacturing line and know all costs and stuff Smile

As much it is a dick move, it's not totally unreasonable. I mean, this is the same charger as the DS Lite's. It's terrible for new owners yeah (and for people who will sell the earlier version to buy the XL), but it's not that surprising.

same case with the ds lite, its a tad squashed horizontally and there are tiny grooves. it may work, given their shapes are almost identical. edited my other post with dsi pic
EDIT: after searching around some more, the DSi charger is the exact same shape as the 3DS charger. deleted comparison post.

The fact this has already caused such confusion surely points to the fact it should just come with the damn thing...
