haven't you?

so basically I thought of a game about a cursed guy who gets turned into a floating skull and everyone hates him

But then he wears masks and it's okay!

also Dumpling is on the left.

I'll draw the masks as soon as I'm alright with the body sprite. The side-facing ones look horrendous - I'm thinking of making them face diagonally instead, but tell me if you have any other suggestions.

For the side sprites, I think that if he's a skull, there should be a lot more roundness to it. Otherwise it makes it look a lot more like a mask.

How about making it not flat? Would be way better with the side view.
Your antialiased outlines will probably clash with several backgrounds besides not being necessary here I guess (it hardly makes a difference).
I'd suggest moving the eyes further down a few pixels and giving him a sad or depressed look (everyone hates him? make his expression show his despair).

You're right about the antialiasing, especially considering the backgrounds I'll be going with.

Those barely look like side sprites any more. You can still turn it more while keeping it kinda round. Wink

Unless the story is "He died by having his head flattened" I'd make his side sprites look more like a skull Wink

That's about as side-spritey as I dare make it, because I want the masks to be visible in at least three out of four directions.

They're incredibly blurry

But besides that, I think I like the general style there.

Yeah, they were compressed by Photobucket (also why'd you save it as .GIF?), because when you use the bucket tool on the background there's lots of surrounding garbage that doesn't get colored.

Looking good, but the outline of the sprite could be softer. Maybe a darker violett~
