Geno Mario and Luigi Bowser's Inside Story (Battle)
#46
Looking better, but there's just no personality in that face. The body could use some shading too.

Whoever said that the head should face side and body diagonal told you wrong. I mean, just look at Luigi and Bowser. They're both facing diagonally.
The idle can be whatever you want it to be. It's a matter of how creative you want to get; it's possible to make the character turn different directions depending on their personality or movement, it's not a stylistic thing that they should face only one direction.
Like, I know Mario is a staple or some shit, but sheesh.

Anyway, MegaMario. Why on God's green earth did you start sheeting this without waiting for more criticism? Unless you actually try to respond to/implement the advice Star and I took time to write out for you, I don't see the point in helping you with this further. If you want help from either of us on Geno, please try to improve one sprite before going super saiyan.

EDIT: And yes, before I get asked, that means it still needs a lot more work.

Okay, I just added some shading on Geno. The first sprite is from Geno's idle on the first frame and the second sprite is from Geno releasing his canon on the first frame as well. Is there any suggestions that I need to fix?

Another update. I just smoothed the ear and the mouth a little bit on Geno's battle poses and I added more details on the front pose.

More update on Geno. Geno's hair and symbol have been adjusted. Plus I smooth more on on his whole wooden body.

On the side view wheres he is ready for battle, the left hand looks smaller than the right hand when its a fist.

Also, this may be minor critique but i suggest that you should try an outline or something between the eyes and the wooden lines. I just feel like that theres a space between everytime i look at the eyes of the Geno sprite you made

His right hand/arm blends in with his body and I can barely see it without zooming in.

Well, you've improved this since the initial version, I'll say that for sure.
The shape and proportions on most parts are correct now, though there are a few details that still irk me.

Front view:
I like the new hat shape, but the sharp angle between the curve of his head and the hanging part of his hat is... to sharp. I know the Mario RPG artwork looks like that, but that's because it's made out of separate polygons. Given that this is cloth you're dealing with, it should be smoother.
His shoes seem too small from the front. Remember, unlike Mario, Geno actually wears boots.

Side:
The head slopes upward too much towards the back of his neck; Geno's head, from all angles, is more of a slightly flattened sphere.
His legs shouldn't be bent at the ankles, it implies that his center of gravity is off.
The face from this direction has too many dark areas and his eyes are kind of creeping me out. The mouth is also very awkward; instead of making it stick out, make the jaw rounded and outline a few pixels with a darker color to imply his mouth. It shouldn't really stick out, check the official artwork posted in the first page.
On the hat, use the darkest blue to shade more like you did on the diagonal.

Diagonal:
The face is too similar to the side pose. Rotate it towards the front a bit more.
The sock part of his hat isn't smooth enough at the tip/bottom.
You've got some bad shading on the back of the ear.

General:
The white of his eyes would benefit from being a pixel wider on the outside.
Instead of using broken dark brown pixels to separate his head from his cape, just outline it in black and smooth it.
Like I suggested earlier, I still think you should get rid of the orange shades (for yellow) entirely and use his wood colors instead... In addition, try hue shifting his wood palette a bit more. Right now, it's sort of dull and uninteresting.
The "bow" badly needs some blending.
The hands are too small from some angles.

That's all I got for now. It's getting closer.

Update. I just tried to readjust the wood and cloth pallete and added more details on Geno.

That bit of extra detail actually made him look a lot better.

Looking way better! I think you should see a bit of his hand in the side pose, but otherwise, it's finally at a place where I can say "Nice!"
