You ought to play the games
There's graveyards and NPCs talking about deceased Pokémon
And Gary's Rattata dies after you defeat him on the MS Anne, see the encounter at the Lavender Town tower. I'm sorry. Sad

Isn't it possible that what we perceive to be "normal" animals are simply Pokemon which resembled the animals we're familiar with?

There's mention of real animals for descriptions in the pokedex because it's a video game created for real people

There's animals in the anime because the directors probably just didn't care because there's no set canon on animals

most likely nobody bothered even thinking about it, which means trying to figure out the canon on animals in pokemon is pointless, because the canon doesn't exist

It does, and is frequently mentioned. example: slowpoke tails

pokemon are already the animals just look at there classifications
for example sandshrew and pikachu are mouse pokemon
so when the pokedex mentions indian elephants that probably just means that there is some huge water type with a trunk somewhere in india or the pokemon world parallel
(or at least that's what I try to convince myself is the case)

I played the games and I failed to bring that to mind.
Now how to explain that... I...
Hmm...
All I can say is that the origin of Ghost Pok'emon had to be explained. Toys break. But Pok'emon death is purely all NPC talk. Perhaps they are all in cahoots and play mind games, trying to teach you morale, while they let you fight Poke'mon with eachother like the hypocrits that they are.
I've neglected 99% of all my Pok'emon, not feeding them or cleaning after their pink anime waste, and they still look as lively as when I got ' em. Aside from Poison, the only sickness a Pok'emon can ever have is benificial.
If Pok'emon can really die, why can't I "kill" my own, no matter how hard I try?

this confuses me.

pokémon isn't a tamagochi type game.

also killing your own pokémon would be very unsettling, wouldn't it

My initial point of the whole discussion was that Pokemon that didn't come from nature (i.e. men's pollution and technology and whatnot caused them) would probably not be classified as Pokemon in actuality. From what I understand, Pokemon is sort of like a kingdom, so an organism needs specifications to fit into that kingdom. The fact that Pokemon like Trubbish and Porygon are classified as Pokemon just sort of nags me, since the chance of them fitting into the Pokemon kingdom is low, if there at all.

Note that my point is arguing in the case that the Pokemon world was real. But since it isn't, I accept the whole shabang. I mean the Poke Ball alone is enough to throw sense out of the window, and if you can't accept that then why play/watch Pokemon at all.

(Also ha I made a thread while playing TF2. My multitasking skills amaze me sometimes.)

Pok'emon survive everything.
Even if a level 1 Wurmple can survive a level 100 Dragonite's Draco Meteor and Hyper Beam, whatever, and merely faint, which only takes Nurse Joy a second or 2 to cure.
Yet some people manage to let them die, who coincidentially aren't player characters.
Tamagochi or not, it's not about me not able to kill my Pok'emon, but about strangers claiming their Pok'emon died. They must really suck as trainers to let that happen as it never happened to any player character I know.

Also, Slowpoketail is the only instance in which meat was harvested from Pok'emon. There was never proof that it was actually taken from a Slowpoke, so it might as well be beef. Team Rocket's actions in Slowpoke Well might be a cover for this forgery. Pok'emon abuse shouldn't be considered abuse as it is merely human versus Pok'emon, which isn't all too different from normal Pok'emon fights. Related to my Pok'edeath statement, I have yet to find out how to send out my mom in a Pok'emon battle. That should teach her to spend my hard earned money on fruit I can harvest myself. I mean, I travel all over the place! I can buy my own friggin' items!

I wish I wouldn't have to use this argument, but it's a freaking game. Having your Pokémon die would be terrible. You're not playing some kind of gritty game, it's a kids game with cool monsters.

That's kinda the same as asking why Link doesn't instantly kill every enemy with his sharp sword and why doesn't everyone on Super Smash Brothers get cut in half by him.

I think this thread is done for me.

Also, Farfetch'd are nearly extinct due to being hunted for food.

Some Pokemon are aliens or literal gods, I don't think considering "Pokemon" to be a kingdom like the plant or animal kingdom in the real world makes any sense.

Well what should they be then? I'm sure that in the real world they'd be grouped in some sort of way.

Stuff crammed into one idiotic single catagory.
Kind of what people have done with mythology, or with types of marshmallows.

Nintendo logic is confusin, but that has some charm. Tongue
