The colors of the dirt run together and are too closely shaded for any of the detail to be readable.

I made a slight edit to the dirt's colors to show what I mean, they're not the best colors, but you get the point:

it's not worth working on a bunch of detail only to have it be unseen by people, yanno?

Thanks for the feedback guys. That slight colour adjustment really brings the dirt out, might need to tone down the highlight though since it's looking pretty strong. The fade off to solid colour is just the style we're going for with this game, there will be decals such as rocks and roots in certain areas to break it up.

Sort of similar to how it's done here, except not solid black:

Maybe if you uploaded a version of the background with those decals to break up the solid colour we would have a better idea of the effect you are hoping to achieve?

Hey guys, bit of an update, still WIP.:

As you can see, I've increased the fade off of the dirt tiles so it wasn't so sudden, but more gradual. Instead of fading to solid colour, I've put in a very subtle texture. There will still be the large decals which are placed inside the dirt tiles to break it up, but they have not been drawn yet. The bushes and grass are still being worked on, but I am having some difficulty getting them to look right. Does anyone have tips or tricks they can impart on a good method of doing grass/plants in general?

Feedback welcome and appreciated!
